A kukri of mediocre quality that fooled collectors of ultra high quality pieces.

This is in the Wallace Collection and when I took it apart the curator was surprised to say the least. The grip is a modified shamshir handle of brass that was made in the late 19thc. The Nepali blade had a poorly done koftgari design applied and the tang was riveted with a new piece of steel to accomodate the replacement grip. The scabbard was modified to accomodate the change and implies Indian manufacture.

The top of the blade misses the handle! & the cho is obscured by the guard pieces!

Thanks for sharing!Looks like they could do with you having a good sort through there collection in general, if they have stuff like that!
