Good idea, looks good, why isn't this thing <$30. For $130 you can buy a real nice knife, why is this razor blade keychain multi-pry thing $130?

Because Todd Rexford. It's collectible, if you swing that way. Think of it as moderately priced man jewelry. It's not for everyone.

I had to Google this thing.

Is it April fools day already? LOL

130 bucks for THAT?!

The man jewlry prices are pretty ridiculous. Have you seen the AFK knuckle prices? A machined chunk of aluminum sells for >$500 on the secondary market.

Because some makers when they get a following feel like any piece of scrap they can fashion into a functional item is worth money. In way its true because people believe it or not buy crap like that up all day long. Its either for the die hard rexford fan or a guy who wants to own something from that maker yet cant spring for an actual folder. You have to remember we are in the middle of a minimalist movement. Which means many makers are taking advantage of the fact that people will pay stupid prices for the simplest of things. I can tell you one thing. If that didnt have todds name attached to it your $30 estimate would be exactly what it would fetch if it sold at all. And even at $30, I see no benefit to it over a cheap box cutter.

I can no longer buy a really nice knife for $130. Nicest knife for that price is what? Paramilitary 2. Own it.

See the hate coming out. Reason it is $130. Rexford name and exclusivity/rarity. What's in a name? If I said CRK would you expect horrible QC? What if I said Strider? Personal experience and what I have seen when people review theirs. Want to wrap your head around something look up the Vox Snails and how much they are going on the secondary. Crazy to me but then I wouldn't buy one on the secondary.

Is it good or bad that the pen in the pic cost more than the Rexford R.U.T. ? I mean I could just use a plastic Bic. Who has ever used a Bic till it ran out of ink? I haven't and I've used hundreds. Joke, I'm sure I've had one run out but you get what I mean.

Prices for anything rexford is stupid crazy now. That blue rexford cesium went for $29,000, the guy that bought it flew in on a private plane to outbid everyone. That's how it happens though, if I was into rexford my max for that cesium would of been $5000. I obviously would not of won it, but let's say a regular epicenter went up for sale for $4000, that would seem like a deal to me because of the price of a cesium. Now these ruts are out at $130, what's $130 vs $4000 or $29000? I would buy it without thinking because rexfords name is on it.

That's pretty much why these prices escalate. I would not pay more than $15 for that rut personally, I also would not pay more than $1000 for an epicenter, but there are a lot that would in a second. It's there money.

I'm also personally thrown off by makers that make expensive knick knacks instead of spending time on making real knives.

or you can buy a cheap knock off one similiar to the RUT on ebay for about 5.00 that will probably split apart due to poor QC (i've seen one before).

Why do women buy that $200 plain looking Louis Vuitton wallet when they can have a Wally World special for $5? Because it's an LV. That's why. We can all talk about QC and high end materials and customer service til we are blue in the face. The truth is it's all about the status of the object you purchase, and how it makes you feel.

The bottom line is that there are basically 2 types of people who own RUTs
1. The person who owns a knife from Todd already and wants to advertise it with more swag from the maker
2. The person who can't get a custom Rexford knife for whatever reason, but really wants something built by Todd (and he does build them himself), and is willing to pay a small (to them) premium to do so.

Nothing wrong with either mentality. Look, we all "geek out" about things i.e. the LV example above. if it works for you and you can afford it? get it.

Hell, there are members of this very forum who think it's nuts to spend up to $100 for a KNIFE let alone some utilitool that clips on your keychain.
