on the official Spyderco Facebook group Kristi announced that the Rhino is being moved to Taichung from Taipei. Also it will be made with Cts-XHP and peel ply CF handles instead of Cts-BD1 and G-10. What's everyone's feelings on this. Personally I'm a little bummed. Got my oldest son a 440c Cat G-10 for his 5th birthday last year, now it's rolling around time to get my other son his first knife and I wanted him to have a Rhino. Guess he will have to have a Dragonfly instead.

Dragonfly is a good knife.
Regarding Rhino I am very happy. Upgrades and quality always welcome.

I just really like it because it was very similar in quality terms to the Cat G-10. Wanted their first knives to be pretty equal as far as material and quality.

Cost is always a concern. I was planning to buy two of them. One for myself and second for my nephew. Now my nephew will get something else and I will enjoy upgraded knife. :p

Its back on my radar now! Any word on the price yet? I was bummed that it was bd1 originally, not that its a bad steel, just not my preference.

This is good news for me, it's moved from no thanks to I might actually get one of these!

Im quite happy to hear this! I was planning on picking one up before, this just makes me wish I could even sooner! Absolutely love CF, and I've been wanting to try CTS-XHP for a while now. As mentioned above, the Dragonfly is also a superb little knife. You won't be disappointed!

I'm curious to see one in person. I like bigger folders, but it's certainly an interesting design and it was designed by a fellow Hoosier

It will also be featuring PB washers. However with the change of factory and materials, even with MAP pricing it will probably directly compete with the Para 3. I doubt it will be under $100 with peel ply carbon fiber. For those who were hoping to get a budget minded compression lock, like myself, I don't believe it will happen now.

Price wise possibly it will compete with Para3, but not in application. Also if somebody wants cheap compression lock, you would get what you pay for. Taipey made $50 compression lock folder, which couldn't pass Spyderco QC. I would rather pay $100+ for good knife than $50 for defective.

I'm guessing that with the move to Taichung, XHP and CF/G-10 the price will go up from $48 to closer to Sage5's $138.

As far as application, both the Para 3 and Rhino would be EDC knives just with the Rhino being a bit smaller overall. Which taken into account would put it against other offering by Spyderco that are cheaper in some cases and would be around the same price, minus a compression lock. As far as you get what you pay for, when looking at all the threads here on the forum it can be seen in some cases members have spent hundreds on a knife that didn't meet what they paid for. While others have found $30 and under knives that have put to shame $100 plus knives. Also it was never said what was wrong with the original batch of Rhinos, so we have no idea why they didn't meet Spyderco QC. Plus the Rhino was intended to be an affordable budget knife with a compression lock, not another one with it over $100. If they had stuck with the original materials and just changed manufacturers, keeping the price closer to what it was suppose to be wouldn't be so bad. I was looking forward the Rhino and trying out the compression lock without having to spend $100+, not everyone has a high paying job or budget for such high priced knives.
