Here's a question for those of you familiar with the Rhino watch band, a picture of which can be found here: http://store3.yimg.com/I/westcoastime_1797_7594780
I see the metal rings on the side with the buckle, presumably to keep the end of the strap tucked in after the buckle. My question is what are the metal rings for on the other side of the watch? Also, for those who have first hand experience with these bands: How does the length suit you? I ask this because I have smaller wrists, and I don't need a giant band. Thanks in advance!

the second ring is actually a part of another strap that is used to hold the watch in place on the band. it's a little hard to explain, but please check out these pics for your understanding:

the extra band/ring is a feature on NATO straps, but a lot of guys (including myself) end up cutting it off. IMO it just raises the watch higher off your wrist- which is a pain, is heavier, more complicated, and overall just an extraneous part. recently they made a rhino strap (BR-2) which is just a single band. I like it.

as for size, the rhino is a bit bulky of a band. it is definately wide (20mm), thick in comparison to most fabric bands, and the rings add to a bit of the bulk. however, the fit is acceptable. my wrist is 7" in circumferance and i am pleased with the rhino fit. a new rhino is pretty long, since it is a divers' band and is designed to fit over wet suits and the like. you can cut the extraneous material off if you choose. i've seen some forumites who have cut off one of the rings with a dremel.

i say go for it. rhinos are cool and are hard to kill. get one and modify it to fit your lifestyle. ;)

hope this helps.

I like the "extra" strap. It balances the overall look of the strap, so it doesn't appear buckle-heavy. Especially so on Rhino straps, which have two rings on each side of the watch. It sort of breaks up the boring length of strap and gives it a more technical look. Now I feel like a total git going on about watch strap fashion. :D

I've got a very small 6.5-6.75" wrist, wear my strap very tight, and there's still 2 more holes on my black-ring 20mm Rhino. No cutting needed either, as the end can be very neatly tucked into the buckle-side rings. So in all likelihood the BR-4 in the 20mm size will fit your wrist. Judging from length measurements on Bill Yao's site (www.mkiiwatches.com), the uncoated silver-ringed 22mm Rhino straps might be a tad longer.

The only thing really large about the Rhino straps, compared to say a metal bracelet, is the tucked-in section that bulges out a bit. If you wear your strap the "wrong" way, that is, buckle end at 6 o'clock, the fat end will be facing in towards yourself and out of the way. With this method the buckle also sits better (it doesn't touch the table) while typing.

P.S., Howard at Westcoastime is a very good dealer to buy from.

I think the Rhino will fit my wrist, indeed. Thanks for all your replies! Thanks also, Midget, for the link to Yao's site regarding the proper band use.
