I was intrigued and impressed by the proof test performance of this sword as forged by the winner .

I would have one custom made, if only I had the resources . I don't know if any of the available production versions would be nearly so worthy .

Any thoughts about a more affordable , similarly designed , functional sword ?

Wow, this pattern is new to me. Looks like a scaled-up Fairbairn Cobra. If you google "Rhomphaia".... you'll find a few versions in the 200-300 price range. Also, I can't seem to turn the large font off...Apologies.

Windlass makes kind of a one hand sickle-blade called the Talon in their Cobra Steel line, and it is quite affordable. There is also a maker on the forum who goes by "archerhere" if I remember correctly who was making them a couple of years ago. It looked like one of the little explanatory cartoons on FiF was identical to his version of this sword. With the added publicity, he might make them again if asked and a lot of his swords are in the 2-300 range.

Affordable i.e. cheap and functional rarely go hand in hand.

Depends of course on what your price range is and what you want to use it for?

The Cold Steel Warrior range are their budget conscious line and should hold up to whacking a tree limb, if thats your fancy.

If you want pride of quality and pride of ownership - talk to Mecha.

I'd look at Philippine makers. Seems a Ginunting could be modified easily enough.

Indonesian knife makers sometimes offer Sewars and Kuku Machan that could be modified easily enough too -

.

On the American side, MMHW does a model called the Mete that could be modified -
