Richard Todd dead.

Richard Todd, an actor most famous for his portrayal of Guy Gibson in the film "The Dam Busters", died yesterday, aged 90.
Less well known is the fact that he was a war hero in his own right, parachuting into Normandy early on D-Day, to reinforce Major Howard's glider troops who had taken Pegasus Bridge shortly after midnight.
He appeared in the film "The Longest Day" as Major Howard, opposite another actor who was playing himself.
He also appeared in a film with Ronald Reagan and became a personal friend.

I for one am happy that he survived to enjoy a long and successful life, in spite of some personal tragedies.

Heard this today on BBC Radio 4 and was sorry to learn of his death.
