Traded for one of these and wanted to see if anyone had some information to share on Rick's folders. This one has a recurve spearpoint blade of S30V at
4 1/8" in length. According to Ricks website it looks like the Extremes have a beefy build as the blades measure .165" in thickness! Of course beefy is good in my book. Read somewhere else that these models weigh in at over 6 ounces so that also tells me it has a beefy build to it. I also like the idea of the lock stabilizer that Rick came up with although I never felt that I had any problem with moving the lock bar over too far, at least it won't happen here! So pics and comments are more than welcome....tell me about your Rick Hinderer creations!!

Looks like I can now answer my on questions as the Firetac Extreme arrived yesterday morning. My first thought on picking up the package was, "this thing has a little bit of weight to it". As a matter of fact I weighed it this morning on some postal scales and it came out to 6.5 ounces. Of course I have to measure everything on a knife and the Extreme stacked up well in this department since beefy was what I was looking for. As a matter of fact I came to the realization, as I "smoked" this one over, that this is the knife I would have if I could have my perfect sebenza. I've always commented that a longer, thicker blade, thicker titanium handles, ambi opening, carry for tip up or tip down, were things that I would be happy with when we get together and talk about what our perfect Sebbies would be. Now I don't need CRK to build the perfect seb. Rick Hinderer has done if for me with the Firetac Extreme! :D :D :D

Handles are .165" thick and have a grey ceramic bead finish along with being textured to give a secure grip. The insert is black G-10 and is very nicely done. Blade as mentioned is also .165" thick and honed to a hair popping sharp. The last 1/2 inch of the top false grind is actually sharpened and really, and I mean REALLY aids penetration. When closed the edge is very secure within the handle and out of the way so accidental cuts do not occur. The machining on the knife is as perfect as it can be. The edges of the handles are nicely rounded and no "hot spots" exist that I can find. The action is slick with very good resistance on the closed blade so that accidental openings should not be a problem. Tip up or tip down...it's your choice, and the one you don't choose has a nice titanium insert with screws to cover up the indent.

Folks, the pics of Ricks knives do not do the actual knife justice as this is the nicest framelock folder I've come across in a long time. I mean everything is perfect on this knife!! Knives with these dimensions and weight are often times a little bulky, but the Firetac Extreme is very slim and carries like a dream.

Hey, I think I've found myself a step closer to an att* edc!
