Some months back I designed the pivot screw and some small parts for my new folders.
I dont not have the technogly at my shop to produce what I come up within my mind.
Rick Hinderer has been a knife maker for years and years . He had bought a cnc lathe and machining center. I sent the drawings to him and wala.... He produced the parts. I feel he knows what knifemakers want in parts for knives.

He did a fantastic job. They have a great finish and the tolerance is .0002 ..

I want to post this for all of you who need parts for folders and want your own look.
He also will not produce your designs for others. This is great.

Here is his email RHind64@aol.com .

Great guy!

Also This post will provide me the announcement that I have my pivots, thumber, clip and screws made out of my shop. They are of my design just built by vendors to my specs..
All of the other machining and assembly is done in my shop. This includes Heat treating.
I do not laser cut or water jet cut.
My son helps me in my shop also. The lazy bastid hehehehe

OH GREAT!!!! and just when i though he was going to finally make my folder pivots...now i will have to wait forever!!!!!!!!!!!!! He does do great work....very slowly....or maybe Im just way down on the list...

Darrel,
Thanks a bunch for the plug. When I started this business I figured that if I couldn't make high precision parts I might as well not even try.Thats been possible with a new South Bend cnc lathe.I had such a hard time finding good pivots for my folders that I thought what the heck,I'll get a lathe and make myself a bazillion of them.I really enjoy doing special parts for other makers, knifemakers always find a way to make it a challenge,to make a part that would otherwise be simple.haha

Tom,
You are right about the slowness right now,and I must appologize for this. This new venture has really caught me off guard.I had no idea there was such a demand out there in the knife community.I am running to get everyones parts done. The reason I'm backed up is that right off the back alot of makers wanted special parts made, each of these parts requires programing the machine. Now once i have the programs, when a maker orders more of the same parts all I have to do is put the part program in the control set the tools and start making parts. So it won't take near as long.So down the road when I have the mojority of everyones programs done the wait won't be nearly as long. The time that it takes me to program the machine is not charged to the knifemaker, this makes it affordable to have custom parts done. But I do appreciate your patience and I'll get those pivots to you as soon as I can!And your not on the bottom of the list,I'M on the bottom of the list haha Have you ever heard of the plumber with a leaky faucet

good to see you post...come back more often and teach us how to make trick art folders ok??

I ran into Rick at the Chesapeake knife show
last december. I was very impressed with his products. I have used some of his standard thumbers and pivots. They are very tight on the tolerances which indicates they are well made. I highly recommend that you get in touch with Rick for folder parts.

Now if I could just get him to ship me those special thumbstuds I had him make for me.

Tom,
My typing is getting alittle better so I'm planning on going from lurker to posting more often.I would be happy to answer questions on art folders.I've learned so many new things while lurking on bladeforums that I would like to give back in some way.

Barry,
Thanks for the kind words. Now if I can find those thumbers around here on the mess that is my desk.

Jerry,
