Nice one Vince. Both this knife and your KH swayback have ivory micarta scales, but it is obvious that the material is not the same. Can you tell me what types of ivory micarta those knives have?

Another question. Is it safe to say that you are a fan of Rick's knives? ;)

Now that will make a good user Vince. I really like the scales.

Well The Hampton Swayback I have (in my avatar & pocket, along withe the other Menefee in my avatar & other pocket ;) ) ,is,Westinghouse Ivory paper micarta
This one from Rick,I dunno. But I do know, the "look" the maker gets, has a lot to do with how it's finished out,I think
But if you look at the first picture of this knife, you can see the "layering" of the micarta & that's pretty much a dead on true to life shot, moreso than the other shots

I never thought I'd like these inlaid micarta shields,I tried one on a fixed blade from Rick & really liked it.This,a first for me on a shadow slipjoint, and the Ti pin, too.
Yep,I'm a fan of Rick's knives :) Great guy,too.

Here is that Hampton for everyone,so you see what we're talking about.Funny thing,Rick & I were talking knives recently & both of us were saying, how great a job Kerry does,we're big fans of his knives, too. They call that a knifenut,I've heard, somewhere ;)

Very Nice Vince, great score from Rick, he does build some wickedly sharp knives, I am on my 5th one and every one seems to get better. Thanks for sharing.
Jim

Nice Vince, question..why the Ti pin?

Jerry

Jerry, I'm not sure why,but I think its a good material, for a pivot pin maybe, and I'm not trying to be a wise guy.I'm just not sure.

Real nice one Vince!! That Micarta makes a nice handle. I wonder how many shields are around that aren't metal?? Sounds like a thread!!!

A lot of great questions tonight.
I do not know how many ,non metal shields there are out there, but I am aware, that Remington put out knives with a plastic type handle, possibly Bakelite, with inlaid, non metal shields.Maybe in the 40's or 50's.

Thanks for the good words & enthusiasm. As Jim said, every knife from Rick, just gets better & better

Vince, that is awesome to me. What a great job on that puppy.

Nice! The titanium pin is cool and so is the black shield! Maybe next one should have both a Ti pin and shield? Just a thought.

That's fabulous. I usually prefer polished metal shields, but the stark contrast between that immaculately inlaid black double-bomb and the creamy micarta is really striking. Beautiful flowing lines too. I'll bet it feels buttery-smooth in the hand.

Rick,as I said,I did not think I'd like a non metal shield, but on the shadow, with the right combo of materials,it really makes it special.Plus, the EDC factor,on a shadow, well, that SS shield is gonna get all scratched up,this stays looking good, its as durable/scratch resistant as the scales themselves

Oh Yeah :) ,you know it ;)

Thanks Gus & All!!

I swore after I did that lil swayback jack for Vince I wouldn't use ivory paper micarta again BUT, like a big goof, I found someone selling that old Westinghouse stuff at Blade and bought more of it. It has to be finished out pretty much as if it was real ivory and sometimes there are inclusions of crud inside that you don't discover until you are almost finished with it.

The Micarta on Rick's knife looks like it might be linen rather than paper but the newer paper based Micarta's do look a bit different. It's hard to tell from the images.

Wish I could coon finger that baby :D Rick makes a dandy knife.

Kerry i will pop off before Vince does, but it is paper . It doesn't look like the old stuff but seems more irregular layered. He got the material when he was at the Blade Show this year. Mike
