Having attended and taught at several of Jim Keating's Riddles I'm hopeful he is successful in reestablishing this excellent training adventure as an annual affair.
Jim pours tremendous effort into the Riddle. It is a riddle in itself of logistics, reservations, equipment, co-instructors and guest speakers, fun stuff to give away or offer for sale, gifts, feeding of the students and cadre, sightseeing along the river, and just plain old fun.
It is labor intensive and an impressive investment for Jim. Moreso, he believes in the Riddle as a vehicle for training and improvement in the arts. It is unique to Jim and I've not seen anyone else except for Mr. Worden with his own "Water and Steel" camps who has pulled such an outing off year after year.
The events of 9-11 hit the Riddle hard. An upcoming event at the same time as 9-11 stopped students from flying in, and generally put a real hurt on Mr. Keating. He's since elected, to my knowledge, to reevaluate a number of things to include the Riddle.
I expect, knowing Jim as I feel I do, that he will be successful in bringing the Riddle of Steel back in the near future. When he does it will have evolved and will be better than ever before. Further, the Quality that Jim is noted for with respect to this specific camp will be to his standards...which are high.
Fighting Knives was the first cutlery publication to cover the Riddle of Steel...several times

It became a great getaway for me and a wonderful training experience. Plus, I met many great and gracious people on the Snake. Overall I'd rate the Riddle as Jim Keating's greatest accomplishment as a professional trainer in the Arts. There is simply nothing like it anywhere else I am aware of.
I'd encourage anyone having contact with Jim to encourage him to pursue the new Riddle of Steel aggressively. When he announces the next one I'd love to be there with many other of his friends, fans, and students to commemorate its rebirth.
Just Keep Moving, Jim...Just Keep Moving!
