Ride in pocket?

I've been looking at the Emerson line for quite a while, and am considering finally making a purchase at some point. I've carried mostly Spyderco and Kershaw folders, but have recently also added a Benchmade Griptillian and Boker Trance. One of my biggest priorities aside from the performance of the knife is the way it carries when clipped. I don't like for the knife to "ride high" or show a lot of the knife outside the pocket. So my question is, which of the Emerson folders have the most "low-riding" clips? I've seen some pictures of clip-sides, but I know it's also tough to judge from these. Also, if you feel like adding your two cents, let me know what your choice for a CE utility EDC would be, with preferred blade length at least around 3.5 inches, but not more than 4.

Thanks. I figure if anyone can answer my questions about Emersons, it's you guys.

The Waved Emerson's can't ride low, or shouldn't, to work correctly. You could put an STR "low-rider" clip on a non-Waved Emerson.

Another question...sorry...

What do you think of the 7 as a utility knife? With the tanto style blade, how is it as a slicer? And do you think it works well with serrations? I know serrations seem to just "fit" on a recurved blade like the commander.

I think most EKIs sit pretty low, the clip position is pretty similar on most moddels. The kerambit is obviously the exception.
I carry a 12 every day and it does sit pretty low but is wide next to the likes of a 7.
I think the 7 will be the least visable because of the handle shape.

You can put an Al-mar style low rider clip on a 7 pretty easily. A friend of mine did that so il see if i can get a pic off him. Its mounted on a Ti spacer rather than the original one though.

The 7 is fine as a utility blade, the tanto is not a restrictive blade design and will do just as good as a spear pont really. Its more about styling i think.

Serations are for the most part useless and just get in the way to be honest.
If you have a use for them or really like the look then go for it but i think its better to stick with a plain edge on a folder.

The Commander is one knife they do look ok on, but agin if your not going to use them for intended purpose you have just cloged up good part of the blade with soemthinmg your not goung to use.

If your doing "close work" like sharpening a stick or making traps or something you will be wanting to cut with a smoothe edge on the section of the blade that is serated. For this sort of use they are defo. in the way.

Of the many Emersons I have owned, I think the 10 rides pretty low. I carry a 10 or 12 for EDC "outdoor" use, and I know that 12 shows a lot.

My EDC "city" knives are Karambits, and they unfortunately really show a lot, but then again being obviously armed can be a good thing sometimes!

IMO---The "7" is a great utility knife. You can improve it's performance by having a Tom Krein re-grind. ;)

Here is a 12 and a 7 next to each other, as you can see there is actually not that much between them.
Other than a bit of extra width on the 12 and the colour of the Ti slab being more obvious than the black G-10.

The clips are mounted in the same position on pretty much all EKIs so they all look pretty similar when clipped on a pocket.
Knives like the 8 and commander might sit abit higher because of handle shape, even the Persian sits pretty low and thats their biggest folder.
I wouldnt say one shows allot more than another, the differnce in them all is pretty slight.

;)i edc'd a tanto SOCFK (same blade as a '7) for a couple yrs and it worked fine for utility stuff, a '12 or '13 is better but the tanto will work fine.

all the EKI's i have seen carry about the same in the pocket FWIW.
