This is of concern to all Canadians, those who might be travelling to Canada or those who wish to ship knives into Canada.

Apparently now any knife with a pivot screw can be prohibited by Customs according to how loose it is, or even how loose it may be adjusted to.

Does this ever concern any Canadians here about being charged with the possession of a prohibited weapon if your pivot screw is loose?

I don't know -- This particular knife got kind of flagged by them because of the button/switch on it I think (after reading that) - autos are prohibited here (Canada) but that's the only knife law. I've imported a LOT of knives from the US - many even assisted and haven't had a problem.

Great, were going to have to start having retailers tighten the pivot screws until the knife cant be opened at all to get them over the border. And thats not our only knife law, we cant have Bali's and you cant have a knife where the blade is mounted perpendicular to the handle.... blah blah blah, a punch dagger.

No wonder the suicide rate is higher than the murder rate in Canada.

It actually sounds like an Axis lock or knockoff to me."Button in a slot".

On another site someone told how their Spyderco Salt I was confiscated by Customs as a "flick knife".

I've never had a problem with it but knives seem to cost almost twice as much here so I usually buy online.

Please place these types of threads where they belong. The General Knife Discussion forum is for the discussion of knives rather than laws and interpretations.

Apologies, you're completely right - I mis-phrased that... I meant Canada's knife laws are summed up in that one 'blurb' prohibiting autos, push-daggers, belt-buckle knives, balis, etc...

This isn't a new law, it's been around for ages and it's the reason why I won't import a folder.

The knife in question appears to be a Camillus Cuda. At least that's what came up when I googled "quick-open knife, ready for action"
