I've shot the semi-auto Steyr and it is a nice rifle. Very comfortable for me, anyway. Good accuracy, too.

I love tactical rifles but I really love super accurate T/C Encores.

Thanks for the pix. :) I imagine in Montana there are a lot of places one can go and shoot those?

tony,

If SkinnyJoe will permit a brief divergence, which of those muzzle brakes do you like best?

Thanks,

It's a tossup between the Holland Quick Discharge on my .308 or the Vais on my .243

I've shot a 500 S&W, the ports and grip do a lot but how is it with a round like the .308 or .243? Thats gotta be one hell of a blast.

I have an Ordnance Technologies rotary bolt .308 pistol. When I fire it, the muzzle blast shakes the metal roof over the shooting tables at the range. Everyone looks to see what it was.

[And thanks for the info, Tony.]

Similar to the 500 I guess though I suspect that it is a sharper blast. When shooting the 500 at the range it knocks shells off the bench, you loose the sight picture completely because of the flash and the air feels like its being sucked from around you. I like the look on their faces the best though, kinda like they seen a ghost. :D

We were firing my buddy's Barrett 50BMG off the bench. Because of the backward angled muzzle brake, the blast would set off most of the car alarms in the range parking lot.

One time, one of us made the mistake of leaving a nearly full Diet Coke on the edge of the bench next to the Barrett. When it went off, the blast took the can of cola right off the bench and splashed it across the concrete. A bit embarrassing!

Whith the brake on these Encores coupled with the heavy barrels the rifle calibers recoil and muzzle blast is not bad at all, the .460 S/W on the other hand is alot of fun to shoot!

The rifles in those vids have practically no muzzle-rise at all! Very nice. But ti looks like reloading mags on the first one is a bit tricky?

There was this australian guy who worked at a reds guns store in texas and he loved augs, it was his service rifle in the australian army.

My dad's friend worked in Jacksonville, Fl for I believe the police department (ex Navy, so possibly worked for them still) and was part of some special unit and they were issued AUGs. That was probably 17-18 years ago and I was about 13. He took us to the range to shoot it. It was pretty neat being that age and seeing a 3 round burst. Not sure how long they kept them around but I guess it was good enough for them at the time.
