Rifle slings?

My wife bought me a Marlin XL7 for Christmas, and before deer season rolls around, I was thinking I should pick up a sling.

I am going to use the sling for carrying, not for steadying the rifle during shots, so I am leaning toward a padded sling, rather than leather, but a really sound arguement could change my mind.
 
I like the Quake Claw sling for hunting carry...nylon with rubber/plastic pad, quiet, comes in choice of color including camo patterns. Will stay on your shoulder..reasonably priced at Cabela's and others.

I like and have used the Butler Creek Comfort stretch sling for many years now. It kind of gives slightly as you walk and it feels much better than a leather or solid nylon sling. I have used mine hard for at least 10 years and it has not deteriorated in any way. I never thought the elastic would last that long but it has. It also stays on your shoulder fairly well without slipping around too much. Get some locking Super Swivels to go with it and you are set. I recommend it highly.

I would second the Butler Creek sling. I used a leather sling for years, but the give in the Butler Creek makes the rifle carry more comfortable. I carry muzzle down and practice "quick draw" to a sling supported firing position. I can rapidly have my rifle ready to fire. If I fall with the muzzle down, it's not as dangerous as muzzle up.
 
The Butler Creek is cheaper than the Quake, but I am going to give them both a good look. I will probably head to Gander Mtn this weekend and see what they have.
 
Chewbacca, I have no advice for the rifle sling... but that's a damn fine woman you married!:thumbup: I wish mine would buy me firearms!:D
