This one is a little out of the ordinary for Charlie and I at Twin Blades. It is made from a steel fence post. I got the idea watching a program on the recycling of railroad rails into fence posts and the manufacturer mentioned that most rails were 1084. I made the blade several years ago and thought I would finish it up as a "rifleman's style knife" to go along with my flintlock rifle. After completing it I decided to donate it to the Georgia Custom Knifemakers Guild to be auctioned for the John Poythress Scholarship fund.
It has a 10 inch blade, hollow ground and differentially heat treated. The handle is elk leg bone and the fitting is pewter. The sheath is leather wrapped with rawhide and sewn with artificial sinew. (First and hopefully the last rawhide sheath!) Since we aren't sure of the type of steel this knife does not carry the Twin Blades logo but a stamp that I use on my forged blades consisting of an H and M joined.
