Thought id throw some pics up of my newest addition. Ive been wanting an AR style rifle for a couple of years but never had a real need for one until recently. And along with all the political mess surrounding these guns I thought id better get one while I could.
A couple of weeks ago I had five wild hogs in my yard. It was a mom and four babies, but even the 'babies' were knee high. I noticed them rooting around in my yard about 50 yards off my back patio. I rushed into the bedroom got my little Henry lever action .22 out and filled it up with 5-6 bullets as quick as I could. By the time I made it back outside with the gun, the pigs were already in the woods and I couldn't get a clear shot.
Now, I didn't expect the .22 to really get the job done, but I know wild pigs are an invasive species and the deer don't really care to hang out with pigs. My house is smack in the middle of my grandpa's hunting club and folks pay good money to hunt deer out here, so I figure even if I could scare them off id be helping the guys who pay to hunt.
After that day, I went to the wife and put my foot down.
I told her its time to finally get an AR. The .22 just isn't powerful enough. And the 270 doesn't shoot fast enough.
I bought a Ruger AR 556. Which isn't the best AR out there, but its from a solid maker and it gets the job the done.
I topped it with a Leupold 1-4 power scope. I thought about getting a 3-9 power scope and still may change this one out. For now, Im liking this setup just fine.
I sighted it in at 100 yards and can keep all my rounds within a 4'' circle at that distance. I would like a tighter group, but with the 4 power scope 100 yards looks pretty far.
Anyways, heres a few pics of my new rifle. That's my cousin's Bushmaster to the left. His is very 'Tackty-Cool' and weighs about 20lbs.
