I'm planning a big trip back to Africa soon and want to take my BWM with me, I'm going to get Dwayne to make me a sheath for it with an extra strap on sheath to carry a small diamond stone and fire rod. Can you fellas recommend any good smallish diamond stones for field sharpening, some type of strop system would be good too

thanks in advance !!

There are more knowledgeable individuals here that would be able to answer those questions for ya better then i would.

I just wanted to say Africa is awesome, take lots of pictures. Where are ya headed for exactly?

JRE has some great roll-up strop belts and portable stones.

Never been there, m8 but it sure sounds like fun. I've been in Mozambique on official business once, have sour memories of that place. But over all if you can find a politics free place in Africa, it's a real life changing experience. Busse blade should feel right at home there.

Awesome Brendan you ever do any big game hunting over there?

Yeah, I killed a Lion with my bare hands and a knife once - haven't you seen my avatar?

In reality:

Biggest thing I shot was a vervet monkey. My friends brother had a farm and there was a troop of monkeys destroying his mielies (corn). He said he'd give us 10 rand for every monkey tale we brought him back. He gave us the keys to his bakkie (pickup truck), 2 rifles (R1, R3 or R8 - I can't remember what the bloody gun was called) and a packed lunch (that part is a joke)

We headed down to the mielie field and saw this troop of monkeys across this small valley in the top of the trees. We stopped, I got out and took the rifle (one with a telescope on top ) aimed up and BLAM. The poor monkey dropped like a stone. We drove around to the tree line, parked up to go and claim our proof but didn't find what we were expecting...

I had shot the monkey in the belly and it's guts were hanging out all over the place and the poor little thing was still alive! Worse still it had a baby in it's arms! I swear it held it's baby up and looked at me as if to say "why did you do that you idiot?" Anyway, I finished the monkeys off and we called it a day.

That was the last thing I killed with a gun !! The Lion came later - once I'd grown a little muscle !! ;)

if you can find a politics free place anywhere in the world I'll be impressed. Africa is awesome, sure it's got it's problems but nowhere in the world is perfect right !!

Yeah thats a pretty bad hunting experience for a youngster, could have very well scarred you for life, any way I've got an EZE-LAP-M Thats how its marked. Its a brass cylinder about 4 -inches long that unscrews theres a diamond rod inside that revese screws into itself. Making it twice as long, pretty neat little gizmo. Anyway get on their website they should have pictures. Have fun and be safe.

thanks, will check them out !!

Brendan, show your rig, when it's ready.
Visiting Africa is a must IMHO. an eye-opening experience, for sure.
I love the strength and boldness of the continent.
And the coast of Kwa Zulu Natal is beautiful.

will do umfowethu !!

If my reading is correct, your hunting guides will expect you to give them knives as a sort of tip. It’s a traditional baksheesh. If I were bringing my BWM, I’d bring along a cheaper big knife for giveaway purposes.

I'm not going hunting brother and certainly won't need any guides !!

Only tip I'll give them is not to step in front of a moving bus !!

;)

I grew up in Durbs but haven't been back since moving to Seattle. When I lived in London I used to get back most years.

Really miss the surfing!

The South Coast pointbreaks are just amazing in winter.

Durbs is pretty cool, where did you ride down the south coast ??

always need to watch for jonhnies down there bru !!
