I stopped by the Spyderco booth during Blade this year and saw (IIRC) 2 prototype rigging knives. Is this something that will come to be? The ones I have are fine but I'd sure like one-handed opening and a locking blade too.
The blade shape isn't really like the Mariner or Rescue. Beyond that, I'm not sure it's kosher to say.
What's the protocol on discussing prototypes? I know there have been issues about disclosing designs to competitors before patents can be filed, and that most protos aren't supposed to be photographed. Any ideas? Sal?
I don't mind discussion as it is also valuable R&D info. I don't like pics for all of the previously discussed issues, especially since change is inevitable.
One blade, one spike. That's all that has been decided for now. We did learn that the smaller one was preferred by a majority of the people we talked to at shows.
Sal and co.,
please offer your riggers knife in both PE and Spyderedge configurations. I know most people prefer serrations for tough, fiborous materials, and rightly so. But some of us use PE knives 90 times out 100. Something to think about. Anyhow I'm JAZZED that you're thinking of a rigger's knife.
No, don't discuss protos. We have similar issues with balisongs. The marlin spike part was what I was wondering about, as a point of definition. I believe I got to see this in Eugene and loved it. I just can't remember the details. Now a riggers balisong, that would be a knife.
