Hello everyone,
First post here on BF, but I've been trolling in the background for quite a while. I just thought I would tell a little bit about my self and a recent story involving Crusader Forge.
I've been into knives since a young age. I can always remember my family members carrying Case XX knives, specifically, the trapper model. I always liked those knives but always put them in the "old men" category. From there, when I reached my teenage years, I got off into the Spyderco and Benchmade knives. A couple folders, automatics and years later, Ive found myself into the "overbuilt, dumb, brick, sharpened prybar", category. My first "tank" was a Medford 187DP. I personally love this knife and recommend it to anyone looking in that category. I am a fly fishing/hunting guide. I spend up to 300 days outside a year. I frequently go on multiple day excursions in the pursuit of happiness. I use knives for whatever I have come up in day to day operations.
Either way, on to my story about Crusader Forge.
I have been looking at these knives for sometime. I really liked the VIS-T model but could never find one in stock, or I was never comfortable spending that kind of cash on the secondary market when you hear about all the scumbags trying to take something that doesn't belong to them. I ended up holding a FIFP a while back and I really liked the "sharpened pry bar" feel. Fit and finish was perfect. Big, dumb, "over" built knives...I wanted it!
Fast forward to this past Friday. I was ready to buy a FIFP. I saw a couple come up on the secondary market with pretty good prices but again, would rather spend the extra $75 and not get ripped off. I missed a sale on a new FIFP and was a little sad. I thought, what the hell, I'm going to email them and see if he has any left over. Left over knife with a 2 year wait, right.
I emailed Maciej letting him know that I liked his knives and if he could give me the low down on when a batch of FIFP knives would be headed to authorized dealers. He emailed me back within an hour stating that he had just finished a FIFP and if I wanted it, then I needed to tell him what kind of finish and he could get it sent out the next day. I told him what I wanted as far as a finish and the knife shipped yesterday. I cannot thank Maciej, enough. Truly an example of customer service in my opinion. Did I get the exact knife that I would have wanted if I ordered a custom? No. But do I think I got a knife that is going to last me a lifetime, without paying ridiculous secondary market prices? Yes. I thought that this was an awesome experience with Crusader Forge and thought I would share. I will update this post when I receive the knife this week.
Thanks for keeping a great forum on everything knives. This forum, along with others, has helped me tremendously with all things blades. Sorry for the long story, rant, whatever it is.
