I have a Kalinga look alike fixed blade marked Rigid USA.... Anyone seen anything like this before? I figure it is from the 1970s- it was given to me second hand back @ 1991 or so, and I just found it in storage. I keened up the edge on it with a ceramic V sharpener, but I have not tried it on anything...anyone ever seen or used one of these?

Yes, I know the old Rigid knives. Here is a photo of and old Rigid lock back.

Can you tell which one is the Rigid? If you turn on your email I'll send you an old thread that has some Rigid history.

Only one Buck in pic.

Top three are Rigid.

Nope, but very close. These knives are some of my old hunting bag knives.
the top knife is an old Browning knife and still had some Deer stuff on it in the photo
the one to the right is a copy of a Wyoming skinner
the third one down is a Rigid "Apache" folder (I always wanted the one in stag)
the forth one is a Buck 180 Crosslock

Ha! You got me.

The Rigid blade stamp can be seen on the FG. I bluffed/guessed on the others.

Thank you for the fun.

Great scoop- thanks for the link!

I had seen some of these before at gun shows and in discount knife shops and I was not that impressed, but that was in the early to mid 90s. The one I have is from the 1970s,and though the grip and guard are pretty "blocky", the steel seems to be just fine- I take it they used 440C?

Yes, they used 440C steel....with the finger grips using rosewood ...they started in San Diego Co. CA and moved to AR...!

I seem to remember the men who started Rigid had worked for Buck, before starting their own company. That might account for why your knife looks like a Kalinga. John
