Hey guys, awhile back someone decided egging my car was a fun idea (might still be till I find out who dun it). Anyways the factory warranty covered the paint damage to the trunk (I know what you are thinking factory warranty covering egg damage? Well it was deemed that the egg's impact did damage to the paint, while the common corrosive nature did not damage the paint, so I was left with a non dented but radial cracked paint job where the 1 egg hit the trunk. Anyways that got painted and looks good as new.) But this tart decided he'd get one on my rims (did the same thing to the silver powdercoat but not nearly as bad.) The egg residue is still on there and disgusting.

Moral of this post, I read James Todd's thread about stupid car things, and I decided I want to clean my rims up so I'll be needing to pop the rims off the car, I have the emergency jack which I DO NOT trust to hold the car for more than jacking it up. I take it I'll need some jack stands to hold the car up front or back while I clean the current rim.

So what will I need to hold my car up? It's a 09 Lancer GTS btw. Thanks for any help in advanced.

A standard floor jack & a set of jack stands (at least 2) are good things for everyone to have.

If you will not IN ANY WAY be under the car, a floor jack will do fine, you'll just have to do one wheel at a time.
I'm not sure about what you'll need to do to get the egg off, but I'd suggest starting with a dish soap or carwash soap, then move to something like "simple green" if it isn't coming off with light scrubbing with a sponge. You may not even have to take the wheels off to do this, unless it's on the inner side of the wheel.
I clean my cars brake dust off without removing the wheels, but I only bother to clean the face & sides of the spokes, not the inner section of wheel.

WD-40 contains mineral spirits, which may clean it up but at a minimum should not be harmful.

I've used WD-40 to get a lot of stuff off wheels. Goo be gone? Have you tried spaying it all with wheel cleaner, then hosing it off? Some combination of that might negate having to take the rim off at all.

My issue is that it's coming off but majority of the egg mainly the yolk dried up behind the "spokes" of the rim so I need to take them off to scrub the egg off, it comes of rather easy, but location location location.

You probably could clean your rim on the car. Try this brush http://www.autogeek.net/ezdetailbrush.html

You could start off with Dawn soap and water, If that doesnt work try a mild degreaser(make sure the rim in cool and not in direct sunlight)

If that doesnt work an enzyme based cleaner should break down the egg.

Last option a solvent like Goof off or similar.

Good luck!

I've been lazy and haven't posted here, I took the wheel off Friday using the supplied jack cracked the nuts, then jacked up the car too the wheel off cleaned it with a plastic scowering pad and some ArmorAll Car Soap. Apparently my big allen key wrapped in a shop rag got most of the egg off when I washed my car a week ago but I got it all clean and shiny.

Thanks for all the suggestions, this one was rather uneventful.

you're not the only one *snicker*

soooo, someone's in need of a rimjob, eh? :D
