I just recieved these last week, and have set to working them over. The Armageddon has a 10" blade of A2 steel. The version I have doesn't have the slight recurve that most Arm's have, which I like for ease of sharpening. The scales are black G-10 and have the perfect grip. The small Gambit has a 3" blade of D2, and also has black G-10 scales. The sheath is desert camo patterned Concealex, with the ride along sheath for the small knife being removeable so it can be worn as a neck knife. There is about 30' of black paracord wrapped around the sheath, and a DMT sharpener and magnesium firestarter underneath it. The whole package is on the heavy side, but there's a lot of steel in there!
I did plenty of chopping with the Arm on preasure treated oak 4X4 fenceposts to use for firewood. The handle is extremely comfortable, and didn't fatigue my hand as some other handles types have done. With the integral subhilt, it just fits like a glove. The large choil allowed me to choke up on the big blade and whittle easily. I flipped it over and used it as a draw knife with no trouble and no rolled edge. Any marks left on the satin finished blade wiped right off, and it still looks new!
The Gambit was a fun little knife to use. I used it to cut up a frozen chicken right when I got it. The 1/8" flat ground blade slices through flesh like a champ. I also did some whittling on the oak and it stayed shaving sharp. I finally used it to throw sparks off of a fire steel. I struck it about 50 times on the steel, which eventually caused the edge to roll. It was easily straightened out on a Spyderco ceramic sharpener.
I am completely impressed with this set, and will be taking it on several trips up into the Sierras. Trace really outdid himself with the Armageddon, it's amazing!
