I've been looking for a multi-task camp knife like the TTKK. The closest thing I've seen (since the TTKK is something of a white elephant) is the TOPS Pasayten. But at $180 it is a little out of my range. Does anyone know of other similar knives where the blade is wider than the handle (like a kitchen knife) so that the knucks don't get in the way while slicing, but is still heavy duty.

I was looking at the Swamp Rat's Howling Rat and Camp Tramp. I know they're tough but how are they for food prep?

Another knife that caught my eye was this: http://store.knifecenter.com/pgi-Cu...ing Colter Bay Knives,2,16,=,br,&,60,=,colter

Similar profile to the first two but I wish the grind was higher. Any thoughts on this one? and the price?

Finally, are there any other models that for this profile?

Thanks.

Sometimes in the kitchen I use my Greco Companion. It is made from 1/4" thick stock, but the edge is ground very thin so it slices and splits things in the kitchen with equal ease. It works great for dicing and slicing onions and peppers, meat, etc. It's not the best kitchen knife, but I've found it works well for a wide range of stuff.

Just for sh!ts and giggles one time, I sliced up a tomato, then went outside and hacked a 2" limb off of a tree, then went back in and sliced up another tomato... I told my family "See, I KNEW the miracle blade wasn't the only knife that could do stuff like that!"

I forgot about Greco! Great knives, great prices.
The Murry Carter ones should be good, forged n'all but what is Hitachi White #1 steel /410 SS on the Muteki camp knife?
