Ring from Mini Barrage

So I was cleaning out and rebuilding my mini barrage and this ring fell out from god knows where;

I cant find where to put it. It's the ring on the right; the axis lock is in there for size reference. It's silver but it looks black in the picture. Where does this dang thing go?

Also now if I close the blade and re-open it and stop it midway through its swing, it stops. It used to continue no matter where I stopped it but now it does. I have a feeling I incorrectly assembled it. How do I put the blade on the assist mechanism?

Umm, maybe it goes around the stop pin? I know there is something like that
on the 710, like a free floating sleave.

Hmmm, well that's strange...That probably has something to do with the AO.
Can't really help you there.

Here's a pic of the assistance mechanism

I don't know if that notch is supposed to be back in a reccesed notch or supposed to stay where it is.

While we're on it where does this pin go?

Great I can't get this f***ing thing back together. The last thing I want to do is send it back to benchmade. I'd really appreciate it if someone who knew what the hell they were doing took theirs apart and provided some input.

I think that little thing houses the coil spring that functions as the assist. I didn't know it could come off. Good luck, the Mini-Barrage is the most complicated folding knife I've ever seen.

Out of curiosity were you not paying attention when you took it apart or did it just fly apart once you started disassembling it? Just wondering in case I ever have one and the urge to take it apart. With digital cameras making picture taking so easy, I try to take pictures of anything I disassemble any more. That way I can maybe see how something goes if I have a problem putting it back together.

You might want to call first since Benchmade has a policy about voiding the warranty if the knife is disassembled. I guess they can take a credit card number over the phone for any fees you have to pay but when I contacted them about a new blade they said to include the money with the knife. Might save some time sending the money with the knife. I think they charge around a $20 fee to do non warranty work plus parts and maybe labor?

Does the ring by any chance fit around the pivot 'nut' to keep the spring from moving around? I'm not sure where the pin goes but there must be a hole that it will fit in. Here is a link to a simple drawing of the mechanism on the Benchmade website but it doesn't help much. If I had one I would take it apart but that is one I don't have.

I took mine apart and never saw that - correction, looks like stop pin sleeve (see 2 posts down). But the closing issue I had. Had to take stop pin out and load the spring when the blade was hyper-extended past the stop pin position. Then closed the blade and reinstalled the pin. Sorry but I can't remember more. Take out pin and dink with it. Should work itself out.

That thin pin is a retainer of sorts (see 2 posts down)

Hi yotehunter422 -

Patience my friend; there are several people on this board that will be able to tell you how to fix your barrage.

Just give them time to read your post and respond.

That will most certainly be faster than mailing benchmade your pile of parts.

best regards -

The part is the sleeve around the stop pin. Put the blade in hyper extended past stop pin, spring will pop into place, close blade, then drop in the pin and then the round sleeve over the pin. Reassemble and you should be good to go.

If the pin is really small it goes almost halfway down handle just resting on backspacer.

So sleeve on stop pin is part one.

Part two is retention pin resting on backspacer in knife handle.

Yup that ring is the stop pin sleeve. I pulled the coil spring out of mine a while ago and will admit that it wasn't the easiest thing to get back together correctly. That darn knife has more pins and crap than any of my others. Good luck getting it back together. I would advise not to send it back to benchmade though as you'll have to pay shipping there and back plus fees for them putting it back together.

Try what has been explained and see if you can get it. If you try it a few times and cannot figure it out PM me and I could put it back together for you.

Hey yotehunter422 how's your knife coming along.

If you're still having problem,I would suggest that you remove the thumbstud,I used two T6 torx bits.It makes lining up the end on the spring with the deepest notch much much easier. When I first saw the amount of steel that was milled away from the blade tang,I was totally surprised.

Well everyone I can't thank you enough for your help, however I wished everyone posted a little earlier because I shipped her off. I'm going hunting next week in Texas and I kinda needed it so thanks again everyone and hopefully this will help out someone else like me.
