Ring/jewelry of steel… temper or not?

Might sound silly… but is there really a need to temper ie a ring or necklace made of steel? Made it from O1.

My thoughts (and please feel free to disagree):
I figure it might as well be as hard as possible, and I don’t see the stressrelieving aspect of tempering applicable here since there is no real stressing usage to it like with a knife for example.

Or am I mistaken? Give me your input/thoughts!

Did you heat treat it?

I would worry more about rust and patina in your place. And if you went to trouble of making a ring out of carbon steel and heat treating it I would temper it as well.

Yeah I know. This was more of a ”killing time while waiting for knifes tempering and epoxy curing”. 😁. Just to try it out.

I'd temper it at least once at ~300F
You mentioned relieving stress, and don't forget the steel is in its most stressed state and brittle between the quench and temper. It might crack if you drop it.

I have made damascus rings. Unless the inside is lined with silver/gold/platinum you won't be happy wearing it. The process of lining it is very simple.

steel is under so much stress after a quench that if left too long can crack on it's own without any shock or impact. I would at least temper it to 300* as mentioned above

Steel, water, and body chemistry don't go together well. Stainless steel is different, as well as plated steel.
