This was briefly mentioned in the thread on knives in the post office when someone mentioned a ring knife.

Is this a common item? Thinking about it, it seemed like it'd be a useful item if you're doing a lot of unpacking.

I vaguely remember someone posting a ring type design here (anyone have the link?).

I was thinking along the lines of a hook-shaped blade with maybe a diameter of only the width of a finger. Blade would normally fold down to form a flat surface on the ring (maybe even ornamental). A nick on the side would allow someone to raise the hook blade to use for cutting rope and what not.

Does this exist, or is it even practical (or legal?). Seems no more dangerous than a nail clip, but easy to have literally "on hand" for people who do a lot of work with rope and twine. Thanks. Sorry if this is a rehash for anyone.

It does exist.They are very common in the newspaper buisness.They are made out of aluminun and come in ring sizes.They are about $1 apiece can be bought at any printing supply store.It should be worn on the pinky finger.They are very safe,and cut twine better than most anything.

I call it the Lorena's engagement ring;

Got it at a glass factory in WV a while back, they since shut down, I didn't do it!, but they used these to cut the cord when they wrapped a pallet of boxes for shipment.

Didn't Allen Blade have a design he was working on last fall or eary winter.

His I think was a little more agressive, with a small claw shaped blade worn on the inside, designed to draw blood with an open handed strike or slap?
