Ringtail Knives in Canada

Hi all,

New to the forum.

Wanted to hear about anyone's experience carrying ringtail fixed blade knives in Canada. Any legal issues?

Also has anyone imported a ringtail fixed blade from the USA and passed through CBSA. Any issues? They are totally legal but I once had a couple Karambit knives confiscated by the border agent stating "the brass knuckle " rule. Total bull crap. A handle ring does not constitute brass knuckles or trench knife.

Has anyone had any experience importing ringtail fixed blades? Has anyone had them confiscated?

Your best bet for things that can be miss-categorized by the CBSA is to buy inside Canada. I just had a look in my regular Vancouver store and they have pages. Fox, Cold Steel, and more.

Thanks for your reply.

I do buy from inside Canada mainly. I took a risk on some custom blades which I could only get from the USA. Hope they make it through. They satisfy all Canadian legal requirements but it seems you never know for sure with CBSA. Just wanted to see what if any experience others have had.

Many thanks!

If the rings have a protrusion, like a little spike or nub, then they may be more likely to be confiscated. I had ordered two karambits ten years ago, separately. One had a round ring, the other had a ring with a tiny little protrusion. The round one got through, but the one with the protrusion was detained with the explanation that the protrusion made it a prohibited weapon.

Never had an issue. There are no laws against knives like karambits and other finger ring knives like the SOCP dagger for example

More than one ring might be getting into knuckle territory though, which would be a problem with CBSA.
