Report: Michael Jackson Dead at 50

The celebrity website TMZ.com is reporting that pop music icon Micheal Jackson has died after suffering cardiac arrest at his home in Loc Angeles. The report says Jackson was rushed to UCLA Medical Center after a 911 call to his Bel Air home shortly after noon Pacific time. Paramedics reportedly administered CPR to Jackson in the ambulance, but he never regained consciousness. Jackson is 50 years old. His parents, Joseph and Katherine Jackson, have lived in Las Vegas for the past few years.

He was an immensely talented person who provided me with decades of fine entertainment. Sadly, his life devolved into a death spiral of eccentricity, bizarre and possibly reprehensible behavior, and, quite possibly, madness. I hope he finds, in death, the peace he never found in life.

I remember watching him on MTV, back in the early 80's. He definitely took a downturn in these last few years, but he sure gave us all a lot of great times 'back in the day.'

He'll be missed. RIP, Micheal.

There's sort of a "MJ burn in hell" thread in Whine & Cheese, but I have to say that I do feel sorry that his kids have "lost" their father, and that his family has lost a brother & son.

Despite all that's going on in the Whine section, his album 'Thriller' was one of the greatest ever.

RIP Michael.

He was a dynamic musical innovator and sure had the moves. Quite a shock to see this on the news today. Whatever personel demons drove him in later life, he was a unique talent. Rest well, Jacko!

It's a sad thing. His music did transcend generations. I had the Thriller record when I was a kid and my son just bought his greatest hits CD the other day. Really though, I think the MJ that everyone admired/appreciated died a long time ago.

Been thinkin' about this all day. The amount of hate for his reprehensible actions has overwhelmed any sense of compassion. As proven on this and other forums.

I was a DJ in the eighties, and I could not go an evening without and MJ song firing up the place. His musical talent was magic, and it effected the world positively.

Here's my take: He grew up without a childhood as most of us know it. He was never 'good enough'. "You can do better!" This manifested itself in a real form of OCD called Body Dysmorphic Disorder. He always felt grotesque and wanted to change his appearance. (I had a girlfriend who had this regrettable disease.)

He had the resources to do so, and so no one could stop his cosmetic changes. His need to be a 'child', even as an adult, is a reflection of a lost childhood.

None of this makes sense to us. Nor does it make his sexual actions even remotely justified.

I know a very good person who is serving 10 years of his life in prison for being a pedophile. He's where he should be in this society. Still, the full measure of a person should not be entirely dependent upon one poorly-chosen habit (disease?). (Fear not any liberal freedoms: The court of public opinion will condemn beyond repair.)

I will acknowledge that MJ affected the world for the better. That's OK if you don't agree with me. There are a half dozen threads that allow for the despicable thoughts to vent. I am thankful this thread has a different, more tolerant outlook.

It was a strange feeling I had when I heard the news of his death ...not shocked as I might have been if it had been someone else, but rather saddened that he was dead so young with young children left behind and that his life had become so confused and distorted. :(

Couldn't have said it better myself. Sad to see the way he went, considering the majority of it was directly tied to the abuse he suffered as a child and perpetuating the cycle.

Not saying that absolves him of anything, but it was a tragedy all around, especially looking at that face he ruined with cocaine and plastic surgery, and who knows what else.

Everything else aside, he was a very talented entertainer and an innovator. Music wouldn't be the same today without him.
