I still have 511s that were made by Royal Robbins that are still going, the new ones won't last me a year.

I have several years out of the 511s I'm now wearing. The Royal Robbins ones I would buy in the early and mid 1990s would last me about three years.

Ok, the Royal Robbins ones that I got must have been in a better batch, as for the new ones, right side under holster and left pocket wear out on mine.

I haven't bought RR designed 511s in a few years. No need to. The ones I have are lasting.

I didn't know this. Very sad. He was one of the climbing legends that inspired my traditional climbing years ago. Thanks to folks like him as role models I had 10 fantastic years of climbing. Sad day indeed.
