check out that site, under name 'maple' or something like that

theres also the 'gray force', a ripoff of the M16

cant these people be sued or something ?

but yea, the camillus edc has been out for less than 5 months and already these people are churning them out. damn quick.

what do you guys think ?

Daniel

Ugh. That "Maple" thing looks more like a knock off of the forthcoming Outdoor Edge Paragee. Folks who buy these type of knock offs will learn sooner or later that you get what you pay for....

Believe it or not, both of the knives mentioned above have been available for over six months. I have seen both of them on tables at Gun Shows for at least that long. CRKT, for one, is aware of most of the rip offs being imported by Master Cutlery. Somewhere in the archives Mike Turber has a very long and interesting post on the whole subject. If you cannot find it, call him and ask him where to locate it.

just a year ago i would have been getting one of those knockoffs. i know better now though, thanks to you guys hehehe

paragee, know any of its specifications ? hopefully approx cost and size. i heard its aus-8 steel. ill have to get one if its in my price range!

6 months......hmm, interesting

i read the article about knockoffs which said stuff about dragon forge......i also read the discussion when dellea wanted to sell his spyderco knockoffs. the replys were hilarious

anyway, yea, these knockoffs suck! it must be an insult to the designer to sell them so cheap

One of my friends sent me an Impulse knock off.
The Retail was 1.10 to buy it from maple.
The paragee dont have the front holes like the real one.
I think David has a copyright of some type on it. Maybe it will help.

Whadda piece of ****.

Just goes to show what folks with NO imagination can do when they find a product with imagination.

Take it as a compliment Darrel! You know what they say about immitation! The kind of person that would buy this POS would never pay even $65 for the 154CM EDC! That is SUCH a bargain that they are dumber than words to miss out on the real deal. I don't think you are really missing out on sales to these kinds of people? Heck $10 is a lot for them to spend on any knife...

It looks like they went through the latest knife catalog and said "Let's steal that one, and that one and that one." They knocked off Kershaw, CRKT, Camillus, even Benchmade. Yeesh. Almost as bad as that crap United Cutlery puts out, and calls "high speed super duper tactical ninja knife". The sad thing is,a few years ago I probably would have seen these knives in a store somewhere and bought them at that cheap price, only to find out what crap I had. Ok, I'm done ranting. Feel better now. Think I'll go cut down a tree with my CS Voyager. See ya'll

Hey cool down friends
you look at this shop with your eyes only!
but you forget all this 7 years old outlaws, who wants to obtain through threat the shoes or pocket money of their classmates.
At the beginning of their career they could not afford up to 40 bucks for a quality knife, and they dont need because the other 7 year old dont matter the difference.

Therefor i fully understand the need of such cheap knives, but take care not to open your 9$ knive to a 6 year old who has just bought a 18$ gun!

Hmmm.... Let me be the devil's advocate here:

Maple: 440 stainless
EDC: 420 stainless

Now, why does the "real" EDC come with POS-grade steel?

Paul.

I have a feeling that the Maple has a crappy heat treat, or maybe none at all, while the EDC has been treated. Still not a good thing, but I'd take 420 with a good heat treat before I'd take 440 at a hardness around 49 or so. Course, there's always the possibility I have no idea what I'm talking about..Nah

Davidb415 (David Baker), Dexter Ewing, CPR (Chris Raymond), and myself went to a local gun show Saturday and I must say I saw the most fakes ever. They had CRKT Carson fakes, Dalton scale release fakes, Kershaw whirlwind fakes, CRKT Kapser fakes, Spyderco fakes, Etc.......... None of them compare with the real things. I do feel sorry for some people that buy them because they probably just don't have the money but I don't feel sorry for the tightwads that have the money but end up buying a cheap knife that cost 10 times less than the real thing but 10 of them won't outlast the real one.
Thats just my opinion.

mr44 - I'm no knife maker, but the EDC looks like it takes a pretty fair amount of skill to manufacture. The blade and lock have to be sized perfectly or there could be blade play. Also, the lock has to be bent at just the right angle, or it won’t meet up correctly with the blade. I’m not saying that Camillus has achieved the level of perfection that Darrel might have on his customs, but they’re good for a mass-produced item. If even half of the lock is hitting the blade, I’m still more confident than I would be with a mass produced liner lock.

Camillus was also nice enough to include two Teflon washers, one of which is specially shaped, and a rubber o-ring for slight adjustments. Add this to some screws that don’t strip out the first time you use them. It sounds like a lot of value compared to the POS knives I’ve handled in the past.

If I’m not mistaken, isn’t 420HC used on the Buck 110s? It sounds like an okay “beater steel” to me. I wouldn’t call it a “wonder steel”, but okay for an entry-level knife. extremefishin00 was right about the heat treat issue too. I hear that Camillus has a very good heat-treat. Just imagine one of these locks with a bad heat treat. The lock could crack where it’s thinnest and break off. That would cost you one finger on a well-sharpened knife.

Like I said, I’m no knife maker. But I’m starting to appreciate the skill it takes to make a good knife.

mr44, have you tried the 420HC that Camillus is using? This aint yer run of the mill 420J2 stuff. I've got a Kershaw Blackout in 440A and a Camillus ArcLite in 420HC.

I prefer the 420HC, no doubt about it. I wouldn't call it "POS Grade" at all.

But if you just can't get past that '420' number, call 1SKS and get the 154CM version.
