Anyone have any comments on the Ripple 2 by CRKT? I'm not familiar with it, but it looks pretty nice.

Oh yes it is, one of Ken's most beautiful designs IMO. Its more a collectors piece/light user edc, in fact I completely forgot about mine until I saw your thread.

I haven't used it much due to its beauty, and stupid pocket clip but I still love it and will never be traded/sold.

Pros: Gorgeous design, machining on the handle makes it look more expensive, BLUE!, IKBS ball bearing system, frame lock, easy opening

Cons: Not much of a user, horrendous pocket clip, blade stains easy, sticky frame lock

The first production handles are navy blue, while the regular production models are an iridescent blue which look more eye popping.

First production Ripples have the Ken Onion name on the blade with the K and O touching, while regular production have the font like in my pictures.

Don't contemplate, get one!

The pics don't do justice, its much more gorgeous in hand.

I've had my Ripple since they first started shipping a couple of years ago. This knife is a total joy to flip. The IKBS is so smooth that the knife flips like an auto with almost no effort. It's definately not a heavy use knife, but it's substantial enough for most people's EDC. I have both a Ripple and an Eros, which is Ken's other CRKT knife in this series. The Ripple is a much more substantial knife than the Eros, and the blade profile is designed better for medium EDC tasks. I personally haven't had an issue with the lock sticking on the Ripple, but the Eros with it's titanium frame lock DOES stick somewhat. Like Red says though, the useability of the pocket clip is awful. I carry mine in a soft leather pouch when I EDC this knife. The clip LOOKS nice and the jimping grooves and holes match up perfectly with the knife's design, but it just isn't very FUNCTIONAL. If you get a Ripple I'd recommend the more expensive SS version. They have released an aluminum handled version with a liner lock, and it feels MUCH less of a quality knife than the original SS handled version with the frame lock.

The story behind the design is interesting. Ken was at an indoor sporting event and got to looking at the girder system of how the building he was in was made, so he designed the Ripple with that in mind.

I, on the other hand, absolutely LOVE my Aluminum Ripple. The only thing that feels cheap about it is the price. And no sticking lock problem here. :)

PS: If CRKT ever releases a Ti version of this knife, I'll buy it regardless of the price. That's how much I like it. And here's a little side story. Shortly after the knife was released, Ti midtech framelocks in the $300-range were available through Plaza Cutlery. I passed on one at the time. That was one of the biggest mistakes I've ever made. :(
