With governments all around the world becoming increasingly interested in what you do online it might be a good idea to make things a little more difficult for those nosy bureaucrats.
One option is a good VPN service, but most of these cost quite a bit of money, and also: which one to choose ?

For several years now i've been using RiseUp VPN, a basically free service run by dedicated & privacy-minded people who rely on donations from it's users to stay afloat.
You can choose several locations worldwide to hide your real location (also very useful to read news in countries that use geoblocking) and i've found it to work really well.

(BTW: i'm not affiliated with them in any way, just a happy user)

It usually isn't recommended in privacy communities because it's US headquartered, which means it has to respond to US warrants and align with all the post-9/11 data collection laws we have and other fun stuff (and it has per its warrant canaries page).

We're not going to go down the road of how to avoid legally established laws, rules and regulations of various government entities, whether we agree with them or not...foreign or domestic.

There's plenty of information on VPNs elsewhere.
