Ok thanks, I thought this might be the case.
I might buy a cheap ganzo to experiment on.
I'd prefer to not dye it black so might try an OD green or even a brown instead now.

Just for perspective, i dyed a Emerson roadhouses that was desert tan. I wanted it to be brown. I used brown rit dye. It came out a dark grey and in sunlight it had a purplish grey look.
The rule of thumb is that you can go darker but not lighter. The same darkness probably won't turn out right but you could probably get a different color with the RIT dye. You could probably get a darker grey with a purple RIT dye but blue will be a real challenge, even a dark blue. Black would be really easy though.
What knife is if for? You might have better luck swapping scales.
