How To Rit Dye G10, Grivory?

Does anyone know the limitations with rit dye when it comes to the order of colors? Is it true that black g10, black grivory doesn't take to dyes very well, that the better option is to look for a lighter colored scales and to go from there?

I know that you can't dye something from darker to lighter.
