Hi all,

Yesterday I rit dyed my bugout, couple questions. The smell of the dye is still there in the scales. Do I have to wait a few days before I use/touch the knife to let the dye set completely? Or is it already completely set? If it is, will the smell go away eventually?

Also it turned out a bit darker than I would have liked, will it lighten up a bit with time?

Thanks

In my experience there was no smell using the dye. I used dye in water and heated. Submerged my parts in the hot water/dye. This may differ depending on the color used.

The parts I've dyed did lighten over time.

I have never experienced a smell after dying my scales using Rit Synthetic. I too went too dark with an aquamarine dye. It turned out to be a darker green. This was because I left it in the dye bath for 45 minutes. It would have been fine after 10. Live and learn.

Well the smell's gone now, I don't know maybe some residual dye was still on it or something and it dried up idk. 45 Minutes wtf!! I put mine in for 1 min and it got too dark!

I know. I also dyed the paracord lanyard for five minutes and it turned out perfect. I dropped the ball on the scales. BTW, the knife is an Artisan Cutlery Arroyo. Great knife for the money. Albeit with dark green scales.
