Brian's excellent post about making your own water resistant topo maps reminded me that I made a couple of videos showing what Rite in the Rain products can do a little while back and forgot to show you guys! I was actually working on a video showing the same thing that he did, so maybe I'll post that next week as a little follow up to his review.

Now we really know how well they work...btw..I hope it isn't considered deal spotting to point out that goinggear has some of the best prices on RITR products that I have seen :thumbup:
 
I just got one of these (pen and small pad) a few weeks ago for my pack, excellent :thumbup:. Thanks for the vids!
 
Another tidbit: Sharpie makes a "No Bleed" pen now:

Rite in the rain books are from what I've found, the only option for quality weatherproof notebooks.

@dougo : Those sharpie pens are cool, but if you're using them with RITR books they won't work when things start to get wet.
 
I ordered a small note book and pen as well. On of those nifty little cases to keep them in. Awesome stuff.

Not yet, but you can bet I will as soon as one is in my hands.

Regarding the Sharpies, I'll have to check them out. I know regular Sharpies crap out around moisture, so hopefully those are better. According to RITR, Fisher Space Pens, which is what their pens are, and pencils are the only things that work well.

I got some new stuff in from RITR a couple of days ago that I'll have to add to the site tonight. They make some pads that are actually truly waterproof and can be written on under water. :eek:
 
I am in the Army and I carry RITR pad all the time, we were on Deployment to Iraq, we landed in Kuwait and got on a bus to take us to our FOB that we were going to stage out of, the drive would be a couple of hours and we were told no stops. I had to piss really bad and all we had were empty water bottles to piss in. We were hitting bumps like crazy and well that little hole was just not making it. I sat back down pissed off because well could not relieve myself properly. Then it hit me I had Water proof paper! on me wow! I made a funnel out of the RITR paper and hit a home run. True Story!!!!!!!!!!

The Space Pens definitely work better. I need to go back and amend my previous post. I checked the date and coordinates on what I had in my field book and I was kinda off...
