Ritter/Becker MK2

Just received the Ritter MK2. I already love the feel of this knife!
Typical Rowen razor sharp, handle is grippier than current BKT pieces and my Cam/Blackjack models too. Damn near feels bead-blasted. As far as "feel" it may be the best Becker yet IMO! I will not be adjusting the brass, moves too good this way! As far as the sheath goes, it is kinda unique in some ways. The fabric used seems lighter weight than some but here are the plus's: The liner is much more substantial than most. It really is Kydex! It matches or surpasses the best I've seen as far as thickness/weight, including Spec-Ops. I also really like the stiff-ended keeper strap. One hand opening/resheathing should be no problem.

There's no need in going further till I've put it through some paces but it already, just by "feel" alone, ranks with my favorites.
Here is where I show my age:
I ordered a Mad-Dog ATAK back in the "old days" when Fighting Knives mag was still on the stands. The review they did spurned me to get one. By the time I got mine(several months waiting) the design had changed substantially. Without going in to all the details, the knife was extremely well made and very solid but was not what I'd pictured in my mind's eye. The pictures I'd seen made me think of the ATAK as a high end(as far as materials) piece with utility looks. It was mean looking but also seemed very functional, like a Ka-Bar on steroids. When it finally came in I thought, nice but not what I expected. When the Cam/Becker BK7 was released and in my hands it seemed more like what I'd expected from the ATAK. It has now been surpassed in that regard by the MK2. This is everything I hoped it would be back in the Cam/Becker days when it was first mentioned. I know, I know........I haven't used it yet. I will do that when able. For now I'll just report on the first impressions I have. It's a good one!
It would be sad if they don't continue to make this one. It fits and fills so many niches that I can't imagine it not being available.

When the MK2 was first announced I read comments about it being too expensive for a Becker piece. After feeling it in hand I am surprised that it came in at the price it did. The price seems more than reasonable to me for a Rowen made knife. It lines up well with the ESEE 6 and a few others in the same price range.
I hope it finds it's way into the hands of some "in the shit" operators. I think it will be well received in those circles. I've got one buddy that may be going back in the sand before too long. If he does I'll be sending my safe-queen extra MK2 with him. He has already done an extended tour over there and beat the hell out of a Spec-Plus piece he got from me. It came back looking ugly/cool from use. He replaced the sheath on that one with a Spec-Ops Combat Master model. I don't think he will feel the need to replace the sheath on this one. We will see. Hopefully he won't have to go again.
Good work Doug and Ethan and Rowen!
Man I like this one!

Great post, Ten, I can't wait to read the review and glad to see you over in the BKT forum, always nice to have another knowledgable voice around. Thanks for that.

I, too, noticed the extremely sharp and clean edge.

No time to use it yet, but I'm loving this knife ... just from hefting it and examining it. As I always do when a new blade comes around.:D

My hands are medium-sized and strong (life as a lab physicist does that to you), and I find the grips just about perfect for me. Wetting them does not make me lose my grip -- of course, I only used water, not having The Guyon's rather exotic thought processes.;)

Hey OldPhysics!
Do the scales seem to have a different texture to you?
I broke out some of my Cam/Becker models to compare and they seem smoother than these also.
I really like the difference.

:rolleyes:Yes, I think there is a rougher texture to the handle. Mind you, the grip isn't rough like a piece of sandpiper, but it is rougher to my fingertips. Just enough to improve the grip, I'd say.

Totally understood, just wanted to reinforce that this is a Ritter branded knife, not a BK&T.

It's not a Becker, it's a Ritter.

it's a Doug Ritter Becker :) says so right on the knife. made/treated by Rowen.

(sheath made elsewere, and i won't even go into the handle sourcing :>)

Which is why I wrote Becker and not BKT.
I also mentioned Ritter in the post but I'll try to be more careful in the future.

What is the coating on the blade? Mine feels like the surface of a cat's tongue.

:o Sorry if my greeting to you was overboard.
I would agree that the texture is an improvement.

Heavens! Not overboard at all ... why we've dealt with one another before.

When I use that particular smiley, it's just a way of referring to the post above. No other intent, at all.

Hope all is well in your neck of the woods ... I'm just sitting at the computer, counting time until the "Big Shutdown."

No worries. I was afraid I'd shouted too loudly at you! :D
Hope the big shutdown doesn't present too many issues for you.
I know.......you could say but you'd have to kill me.

No, no ... nothing like that.:D

My main problem will be too few co-workers. As it turns out, I've been directed to "just keep working.":o

I'm sure there'll be other annoyances.:) But, I lived through ALL the other shut-downs and I'll live through this one.

As will the country at large. That's a great attitude you've got there. Hard to believe you can't turn on the TV without seeing a "Countdown To The Shutdown" clock on the screen. It's a good thing there's nothing important for our government and media to attend to right now, like nuclear disasters, Middle Eastern uprisings, you know, stuff like that.....Oh, wait.....

Thanks!
I still intend to buy a BK2 sheath from you. You know what my excuse is right?
I spent all my money on more knives! :)
One of my 5 BK2s still needs some pants.

Damn, no shutdown ;) Being in a military town with lots of civilian workers, I was looking forward to lighter traffic and an easier drive to work.
