Just received the Ritter MK2. I already love the feel of this knife!
Typical Rowen razor sharp, handle is grippier than current BKT pieces and my Cam/Blackjack models too. Damn near feels bead-blasted. As far as "feel" it may be the best Becker yet IMO! I will not be adjusting the brass, moves too good this way! As far as the sheath goes, it is kinda unique in some ways. The fabric used seems lighter weight than some but here are the plus's: The liner is much more substantial than most. It really is Kydex! It matches or surpasses the best I've seen as far as thickness/weight, including Spec-Ops. I also really like the stiff-ended keeper strap. One hand opening/resheathing should be no problem.
There's no need in going further till I've put it through some paces but it already, just by "feel" alone, ranks with my favorites.
Here is where I show my age:
I ordered a Mad-Dog ATAK back in the "old days" when Fighting Knives mag was still on the stands. The review they did spurned me to get one. By the time I got mine(several months waiting) the design had changed substantially. Without going in to all the details, the knife was extremely well made and very solid but was not what I'd pictured in my mind's eye. The pictures I'd seen made me think of the ATAK as a high end(as far as materials) piece with utility looks. It was mean looking but also seemed very functional, like a Ka-Bar on steroids. When it finally came in I thought, nice but not what I expected. When the Cam/Becker BK7 was released and in my hands it seemed more like what I'd expected from the ATAK. It has now been surpassed in that regard by the MK2. This is everything I hoped it would be back in the Cam/Becker days when it was first mentioned. I know, I know........I haven't used it yet. I will do that when able. For now I'll just report on the first impressions I have. It's a good one!
It would be sad if they don't continue to make this one. It fits and fills so many niches that I can't imagine it not being available.
When the MK2 was first announced I read comments about it being too expensive for a Becker piece. After feeling it in hand I am surprised that it came in at the price it did. The price seems more than reasonable to me for a Rowen made knife. It lines up well with the ESEE 6 and a few others in the same price range.
I hope it finds it's way into the hands of some "in the shit" operators. I think it will be well received in those circles. I've got one buddy that may be going back in the sand before too long. If he does I'll be sending my safe-queen extra MK2 with him. He has already done an extended tour over there and beat the hell out of a Spec-Plus piece he got from me. It came back looking ugly/cool from use. He replaced the sheath on that one with a Spec-Ops Combat Master model. I don't think he will feel the need to replace the sheath on this one. We will see. Hopefully he won't have to go again.
Good work Doug and Ethan and Rowen!
Man I like this one!
