Ritter, Becker, Rowen Collab

Not too shabby. Rowen HT on 1095. Sorta like an ESEE-6 and a BK2 had a baby. My only reservation is the description of the sheath... Nylon with plastic inserts, in my experience, are serviceable, but pretty cheesy. I'd rather it be all kydex or injection-molded plastic.

That is exactly what I thought, a 6 with a becker handle and no choil. And you know Rowen's fantastic. I just really love the choil for this size knife but some people do not so here is a different flavor with similar quality.

I hate to sound like a broken record (or Nutnfancy), but I sincerely do believe that a full flat grind is best for a survival blade over 5 inches in length. Batoning isn't always a necessity, but if you gotta do it, a saber grind just isn't as optimal, although YMMV. $120 sounds a bit steep for a ESEE-5/6/BK2 hybrid with a gimped sheath. Either get a 6, pony up the extra for a 5, or spend the extra on micarta scales for a BK2. At least the BK2 comes with a sheath that doesn't really require an immediate upgrade. I'm all for supporting both Rowen and Becker in this venture, but it just isn't up my alley.

Totally agree....100%

I am not a fan of raised jimping, but I guess without a choil for choking up on the knife it won't really get in the way. But all in all I like the design better than my old bk-7.

yea, but dude, we've all already got 5/6/BK2's.....

Actually, its not hybrid of any sort. This knife has been in the works for oh, um, about 12yrs now. It is the current incarnation of the BK12, which was only concepted and proto'd I believe. Guyon and Bladite have been after this thing for more than a decade.

I suppose it's an interesting item then from a collecting standpoint. I just think its niche may already be filled by blades that are just as capable and equally cost-effective, if not more so in the case of the BK2 or ESEE-6. Once again, kudos to those involved as they're all great companies and people, I just don't see a personal need or anything groundbreaking, but I'm just an armchair bushcrafter, so take my words with a grain of salt.

Looks like a good little blade by the numbers. Not sure about the blade hardness, seems a wee low, but honestly not too much so. The drop point is a fine design. The thickness and length are fine. It's got a pommel that looks like it could be used to hammer anything you want. While I've never held a Becker those handles look just fine. Cool deal. If I needed something in that size range I might get one.

God bless,
Adam

$120 for a limited run knife like this does not sound unreasonable to me.
Not sure where you get the "gimped sheath" idea -- it doesn't sound that different from the original ESEE5 sheath or a spec ops.
personally, I like the spear point -- just like the one on the upcoming Laser Strike. (I'll likely order one of those as well)
To each their own, bro - I liked the looks so I ordered one. If I don't like the feel in hand when I get it, I'm pretty sure I can find a Beckerhead willing to take it off my hands for what I spent.

Limited run does bring it into perspective a bit more. I'm just not a real big fan of nylon with plastic inserts. I've never had it done right for me personally. retention just really wasn't there without a bit of modding. Once again, my personal experience, your mileage may vary. I do like that Becker look with the Rowen coating though. Super tough.

no worries - I much prefer leather myself, and who knows, I may make a sheath for it once it arrives. :)

I like Becker handles in micarta, they fill the hand really well and are contoured perfectly for long use, but add that to this and it costs as much as a junglas. I wish micarta handles came standard at this price to keep it competetive.

Roger that. I believe Dawsonbob has a prototype from Camillus. I have been trying to think of a good way to break into his place and steal it such that he wouldn't notice it gone.

Looks pretty good but I just can't get myself to like grivory handles and it seems pretty pricey for the sheath it comes with

Good stuff. They make marine screws for use on oil wells, etc, out of the stuff. Comfortable and VERY FREAKING HARD TO BREAK.

The knife feels good in hand (then again I like the grivory), and handles really well. Nice whittler, should be a heck of a slicer too. I do have to admit though that if I get one I'll probably put a set of the micarta grips on it like I did my BK-2 just because I really like micarta and they're available.
