Ritter Grip Flicking

Recently dicovered that if I release the axis lock on my Benchmade Ritter Grip by pushing it down, I can easily and quickly flick out the blade without using the thumb stud. :)

Also, I can do the same thing to flick it back in the closed position.

My question is - am I doing any damage or causing excessive wear on the knife by doing this? Would the warranty cover repairs if the knife got damaged this way or is it tough enough to take this kind of treatment?

Thanks for your opinions.

Some wear yes, A problem I don't know.

Don't let a LEO see ya doing that, they would think you had a gravity knife.

Congratulations! You've discovered one of the features that makes the Axis Lock rock :)

Just apply a little finesse to it (i.e., don't slam the knife into the open position on a regular basis), and you should find that the knife will provide you with many years of service. If and when you should ever need warranty work, you may find yourself paying for a replacement blade and pin (if they still have those in stock by the time you ever get around to wearing it out).

Keep on flicking,

Matthew

That's fun, ain't it? It can also be a bit nippy on the fingers if one closes one's fingers back over the blade opening and the blade should rebound before one releases the axis stud. :(

Actually, I find that the larger knives have enough blade mass that one does not even have to release the axis to flick it open. But either way I don't think it would void the warranty.:D

I do the same flick trick with my BM 556. It's fun, especailly when you figure out how to keep your fingers out of the way! :D

you can do the flicking with decent backlock knife too, for example Chinook II - recipe is the same as with axis, so its not only a pro of axis lock...

Why do you think some of us love the AXIS lock? :) It's because we can flick the blade open and closed effortlessly. Jus watch your fingers when you flick it closed. I flicked my BM710HSSR open and closed many times a day for a good 4 years with no ill effects. Just don't flick it harder than you have to. It sounds like some people flick the AXIS knives open very hard to make a louder sound, feel "cooler", or whatever, but I just give it enough to open it quickly and securely. My BM710HSSR will open without any flicking if I hold it so that the blade can fall with gravity. Gotta love Militec-1. :)

If you start to let go the Axis bar at the right time (can't really tell you how much open cuz it happens so fast :D ) The bar will contact the tang and slow down the blade enough so that it opens no harder than thumbing it out. Sometimes it even lands softer.

this just makes me want one more and more :D. still trying to decide whether the Mini or normal Ritter Grip... sigh.
