I just got my Doug Ritter Mini Griptilian in the mail yesterday. I was suprised to see it come in a grey benchmade box. The only other time I've seen the grey boxes is when a knife comes back from sharpening. For those that are curious, here is are the other box colors used by benchmade:

Gold - Custom-like and premium type knives.
Blue - Old reliable, and main stream.
Black - Tactical and LE knives, to include many autos.
Red - Budget, off-shore made knives
Grey - Returns, Refurbs and seconds.

Not sure why, but seems they ship the RSK Mk1 series in a variety of different colored boxes (except gold and red) at different times and there doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. <shrug> I can guarantee that what you got is a new knife. We don't do seconds ever, nor sell "refurbished" knives. Everything Aeromedix sells is new.

The silver/grey box is also used for limited editions.

Well I love the knife. I had aquired a pair of BM Griptilians to give as safety premiums last week, and really liked the axis locks. I had also read here where plenty of folks like the mini better than the full size. Then I found out about the S30V version, and decided that that was the one to get.

And no, there certainly doesn't seem to be any flaws with it. I am sure the grey box had nothing to do with the quality. The knife is in top shape, and I love it.

two points for trying with the "Silver/grey" angle, though :-) I've got a BM Juju Snody in a "Ruby" box that I'll sell ya for $160!

Grey - Limited editions, like the Ritter Griptilians. Benchmade doesn't sell refurbs or factory seconds, so I'm not sure what box they would come with.
