I don't see too much discussion of the Ritter Mini-Grip on here. Was eyeing it thinking the yellow one might be a great backpacking folder. Have read and seen that there may be issues with the S30V chipping... Is there any kind of consensus or conventional wisdom on the knife here at WSS?

I like mine, but I tend to prefer the large size RSK's and Griptilians over the Mini's.

I've not had any problems with chipping, and I have used my mini-rsk to scrap a fire steel a few times.

As of last week, you can get the full size in orange!

I have a fullsized Ritter, and love it. It's the only fold I would take outdoors with me (not saying there isn't any other good outdoors folders, but I don't own them ;) ).

The CPM S30V used in the Ritters is great stuff, and the FFG is awesome, highly recommend it. Just overall, the Ritter blade shape is very useful.

I also own a non Ritter mini and it's great, however, I wish I would of gotten a Ritter mini instead.

It's hot :D

I hope they come out with the mini in Orange as well!

I have both the full-size and mini Ritters...the mini is my EDC. I did experience some micro-chips in the full-size, but once I sharpened past the tiny chip the problem didn't reoccur. In fairness to the S30V, I've seen the same issue with 01, A2 and VG10 from some of our best manufacturers. I believe it's a function of production belt sharpening overheating the thin edge...whatever the cause, it's easy to fix.

Same here, once sharpened the problem didn't reoccur. Had the same problem with my Gerber hatchet.

I've got the Mini RSK, 551 and the black coated partially serrated Mini (can't remember the model # off the top of my head). I never use the partially serrated and use the 551 the most as EDC. I carry the Ritter from time to time but because of the same discussions about chipping I've been wary of really USING it.
My wife had a change in philosophy recently, reminding me that we're not on this planet for long so instead of keeping all my good stuff as shelf queens (whatever they may be from nice clothing to gadgets, etc) use them and enjoy them. I'm slowly coming around to this because it's true. Why spend all the money on your nice stuff that you end up never using and when you kick the bucket, someone who doesn't appreciate said items just starts trashing them. That being said, my Mini Ritter is starting to see more carry and use.

BTW I love the Ritter Mini Grip. Awesome blade shape and grind. I much prefer it to the regular 551.

Pic for reference (sorry it includes some other knives too, I don't have any shots of just my Benchmades at the moment):

I wish they would release the mini in orange. I think the mini Grip is the best folder on the market, and the Ritter version is even better. My wife even thought the pink mini Grip was slick, and she hasn't owned a folder (or fixed, for that matter) in her life! Yes, I have one on the way for her. :)

I'm beginning to think it is as well, and I'm really considering buying the Ritter Mini.

I got my GF a pink mini-Grip too, and for someone who rolls her eyes when I show her a new knife, she was pretty stoked about it :D

Good stuff candlelight; I was thinking about starting a thread on opinions on the Ritter mini.
