Ritter or regular Grip?

I finally managed to get the money for a much wanted Griptilian, and I'm wondering if I should save some $ and get the regular griptilian, or get the Ritter Grip which people seem to like more?

Could somebody please explain the main differences between the knives and if its really worth the price difference. I'm not really looking at the mini-grips since I already have several small knives and would love to have a nice big one. Thanks

I have both. I like the Ritter better. That said, I'm not sure it's worth twice as much.

The differences are blade steel (154CM vs. S30V), blade shape (Ritter has wide cord drop point), and grind (hollow saber grind vs. full flat grind).

They're both excellent. I don't think you'll be dissatisfied with the regular grip. The 154CM steel is excellent. The saber grind doesn't affect slicing that much, since the blade is pretty thin.

The Ritter is a slightly better slicer and holds it's edge a little better. However I think the difference is barely noticable. I bought the Ritter because I liked the way it looks and that's still it's main appeal to me.

You just as good advice as you are likely to get. Everything he said is dead on.

I would vote for the Ritter Grip. The blade shape on the Ritter is great, awesome slicer, and the S30V holds an edge for a long time. I had a D2 steel version (from Cabela's) which has the same blade shape as the standard 154CM Grip, but for some reason I just did not like it as much as my RSK Mk1. (So my friend has the D2 Grip now).

I think it will boil down to which one you like best. Either one is a good choice. Both the S30V and 154CM can get real sharp. GOOD LUCK! Kevin

I think in true BF style, you should get both! Now get the 154CM, enjoy it, luv it, than save up and get the Ritter! Your gonna anyway! ;)

Honestly both are great, longbeachguy said it perfectly. I remember thinking the same thing, I got the 154CM first.

The RSK Mk1 is my second Benchmade. I like the blade shape much more than the regular Grip, but I may have to get that one, too.

That would be my recommendation. Start with the one you like the most (for whatever reason) and save up and get the other one next.

I'd vote Ritter as well, it is a bit more expensive but it has so many of the qualities I prefer: flat grind and wide chord coupled with s30v make a great slicer. It is a bit overpriced in terms of the competition (imo), thats a choice you have to make.

Yes, Dantor is totally right. I think the mods should have some kid of warning on this forum.

BEWARE, BEFORE ENTERING BE PREPARED TO BUY MORE KNIVES THAN ANY HUMAN CAN NEED IN TEN LIFE TIMES!!!!

I buy knives of the same brand because one is 1" longer. It could be better you know.:D I am addicted.

I have a Ritter M2 and a Cabela's D2, like both, but I wouldn't trade Ritter for all the tea in China.

I favor the old 555 Mini Grip... Oval hole, flat saber grind. I dislike thumb-stud knives, and I am disheartened that the new Grips are hollow-ground. Why'd they do that?! There are enough hollow-ground knives out there. You want hollow ground, get a Delica, I say.

Anyway, I guess that recuses me from the discussion... Heh. :p
Enjoy whatever you get.

I don't think that Delicas are hollow ground any more. Aren't they now flat saber?

I prefer the RSKs - especially in M2 - but the other knives are superb too.

Unless you have your heart set on one of the Doug Ritter or Cabela's knives..

.. I'd start with a plain edged, uncoated 551 or 556 in 154CM.

The SS Delicas were hollow ground and may still be. The FRN Delicas have been flat-saber ground throughout the D3 & D4 series. The new G10 D4s are full flat ground.

I prefer the RSKs in the Grip series too, both large and small. My mini-RSK is the only knife that gives my Caly 3 any competition nowdays for work. It's always one or the other.

The RSK blade profile has been my favorite EDC blade shape since I first saw it. I like S30V, it's my favorite blade steel for a small folder, but it's the blade shape that keeps me carrying the RSK instead of the Cabelas Grip or the 154CM Grip.

Whichever Grip you get you should be pleased with the knife. I think the hollow grinds suck but that is just my way of thinking. You will have a choice of 154CM, D2, or spend more for the Ritter and get S30V. Day to day use you want be able to tell the difference depening on your sharpening skill.

It's a pre-VG-10 D3 with FRN, ATS-55 and Boye dent. My other Delica is a VG-10 D3, which is flat-saber.

Cool... thanks. I've heard some about pre-VG10 Spydies, but I wasn't buying 'em back then so I've never seen anything except the more current models/materials. I'm always happy to learn a little more about the brands like Spyderco and Benchmade that I seem to buy most often.
