Or, put more simple, I weighed some stuff.
I wanted to know if micarta scales on the knife would be equivalent to current weight.
Here's a set of micarta scales. They came in at 3.1275 ounces.

Here's one of the brass plugs. It weighed 0.1275 ounces.

Lastly, here's the stock Grivory scales along with the three brass plugs. Weight: 3.0055 ounces.

That means that putting micarta scales on the knife is akin to keeping the stock materials AND (roughly) adding one more brass plug.
3.0055 + 0.1275 = 3.1330. That's within 5.5 thousandths of an ounce compared to the micarta scales.

With the micarta on, I checked balance point, which appears to be just behind the first screw.

More importantly, with the knife in hand, I checked balance. It's still slightly forward. With the index finger resting in the curve of the scales, the blade will still fall.

Conclusion: Since micarta scales still provide a slightly weight-forward feel, and since I'm a micarta junky, I'll be placing my order for some scales soon.

Thanks for clearing that up, Guyon. Good stuff, nice pictures. I really need to get me a pair of those micarta slabs.

Why is it everyone's Micarta look better than mine? Are you oiling em up for the photo? Mine look dry and dull in comparison.

Thanks for the write up. Will help in my decision when I finally pick up a BK2.
