I would like to get one of these (Ritter RSK MK1 Mini OR the full size) for EDC. I was going to originally get the Full size.. But I was looking at these pits from the equipped site.. and I think the full size might be a bit bulky for my pocket. This is probably one of those personal taste things..

I guess the thing that has Me thinking is.. I was about to place my order at (www.aeromedix.com) and I noticed that the full size is $104 and the mini is $99. The prices are so close and for a few more dollars I would get more of a knife.. BUT.. then it might not fit in my pocket very well.

Just looking for some suggestions if you own one of these or have used them.

Thanks
Matt

When I was about to order a RSK MK1, I went through the same dilemma. Price on the large vs mini plus overall EDC ability. I decided on the mini since I rarely need a "large" blade. Easier to carry around in office clothing too.

As a matter of fact, I have it on me right now. I love this knife! :D

I had the same problem, and being me, I ordered both. You can return one, but of course that never happens!

I carry the mini in office clothes and the large on the weekends, or sometimes both on the weekends. The ONLY reason I don't carry the large to work is because it's probably not PC for my office and if I pull it out to open something, etc., all hell could break loose. I find weight to be a big factor in carrying a knife and the large is not heavy at all...very easy to carry.

Thanks for the replys so far.. Im sitting in my office right now as well. We can wear casual clothes which includes nice looking jeans.. I want it to fit commfortably in my front pocket at work. I also want it to carry hiking. I carry a BR fixed blade hiking also.. Soo.. Im covered there as a bigger knife.

As for getting both.. We got a bonus at work and me and my wife took $100 a piece to spend as fun money. The rest went on the house. Sooo.. I dont think Ill be getting two. I just want one good folder to last for years..

I looked at the measuements of each.. and they seem pretty simular.. But the pits of the fullsize make it seem a lot bigger than the mini. I just dont want some huge bulge sticking out the side of my hip.. Soo again.. the mini sounds great.. But It just my mind was clicking.. thinking.. Just 4 dollars more and I could get a BIGGER one.. More blade.. more knife for very little more.. Weight was also a concern.. but from what I read here and other places.. even the larger one is very light.

Man, I wish there was an inbetween size!! :)

You're not really getting more of a knife. The Mini-Ritter has full metal liners and I don't believe the full sized has any. If it does they aren't full liners. So you're really just getting a little bit longer blade and a much bulkier handle without full liners. Also the Mini's handle looks much better and is also available in yellow, which I have and think it looks very sharp. I've had both and sold my full sized very quickly to buy the Mini. I've had the Mini a few months now and am very happy with it.

The large grip has steel liners, they just dont run the full length of the knife.

I've handled both. IMO the smaller is perfectly capable for anything I want to do and way better to carry. I imagine if you hack on large logs, split moose pelvis, or anchor your SUV winch cable then maybe the large is better.

Ok. 2 knives isn't an option. With jeans and khakis, I'd still be tempted to go with the large one. Especially if you're getting one good knife. The mini will handle most jobs for sure and I doubt you'll find yourself under-knifed (word?). I like the handle/grip feel of the the bigger knife for bigger tasks. I'm gald I got both, at least until the credit card bill comes in : (

Don't tell my wife, but I actually bought 3, because I have a yellow mini in my survival kit!

I have both :D , but if I could only have one I would go for the Mini.

I carry my full sized Ritter clipless in a belt pouch: I find it a little too chunky to carry in my front jeans pocket.

I also find that the Mini feels a little more solid than the Full, as it has a higher "liner to knife ratio" and the smaller Noryl GTX scales feel a little less hollow.

Like others here, I bought both. After handling them for a week, the mini was clearly my pick of the two ( strange as my preference is normaly for larger folders ). The full length liners makes the mini feel more solid and less plasticy.

I felt the Mini's grip was too small and had a point up by the blade choil that just got in the way. I found myself wanting to move my hand farther forward on it and couldn't. Granted this one was one I was repairing that was not my knife but I was glad it wasn't my knife because it would not have made me very happy. This pic shows the area I'm talking about. If you have basketball palming hands like mine get the larger one. Normally I would go with a knife of this size of the mini RSK. I mean my EDC is a Salt 1 so I like this size knife for daily use but this one's handle, IMO, made the Mini the size of the U2 in my hand. It was for lack of a better description a 'finger' knife instead of a 'hand' knife if you ask me.

Bigger is better, right. Not always... depending on how one dresses/carries, maybe the smaller Ritter will fill the bill for you? $$$ aside, I prefer the bigger Ritter because I can carry it comfortably & it's still concealed. Good luck in your quest and you'll never regret a Ritter no matter which one you choose! :D

Thanks so much for all the advice.. I ordered the mini, and it should be here Friday!!..

Oh My.. I need to line up some things to cut!..

Thanks again!
