I carry two of my favorite knives. A full size RSK1 and a Fallkniven U-2.

Here's the dilemma.

I am .....sure.... that the U-2 requires more sharpening for less usage.
Now how can that be?
The U-2 is RC62 or so and the RSK is 58!

I do both freehand on diamond stone with a touchup polish on hard Arkansas and they both SEEM to be equally sharp after.

But danged if the U-2 isn't needing a touchup first. AND as I said... I use it MUCH less.

:confused::confused::confused:

I can think of three possible reasons. 1) You're not sharpening the U2 right, but instead are getting a "wire edge" that dulls extremely quick. 2) Since the RSK is longer of blade, you may be cutting with different parts of the edge, causing it to dull slower than the smaller U2 with which you have less blade length to cut with, and will use the same part of the edge more often when cutting things. 3) You're doing something with the knives that dulls the harder blade of the U2 quicker than the softer RSK - perhaps some kind of impact work?

My U2 needs sharpening right now, and I just thought to myself that it has gotten that way much quicker than my other EDCs. When you figure this out, let me know. lol

Interesting - my U2 holds its edge longer than anything else I have. That includes S30V, D2, VG-10, BG-42, etc, from numerous makers. It is much harder to get a polished edge on, though.

lambertiana, that may be the clue. I just did the U-2 and did VERY little on the Arkansas stone. It is a bit "toothier" but shaves better and slices paper thinner. This might be it.
It also has the sharp "feel" (for want of a better term) than it usually does.
