Rituals

Hi guys, having just read the Karma thread, I was wondering if any of you guys have any sort of 'rituals' you go through involving Khukris? I recieved my first on my 18th birthday, I have owned knives all my life but this one was special, a sort of right of passage blade maybe. Anyhow, all the knives (proper ones, not including hobby knives) I have cut myself with at some point and smeared the blood on the blade. It is not a ritual, just something I do when I accidentally nick myself. The way I see it knives are designed to cut things, that includes flesh and so I am in some way ensuring they never hurt anyone else because they have my blood on them.

Its not much, but its mine as the saying goes.;)

Have prayed over these khuks.
As far as cutting myself, some khuks seem to be more malaicious or perhaps just ornery in this regard. Usually looking for something to stop the bleeding as opposed to smearing the blade. Get in less trouble that way. Not sure if these blades really have a mind of their own or if its just me. Maybe some of them don't like me. Haven't really checked this out to see if they cut other people the same as me.
All that rot aside, there is a ritual that is good to do with these blades when you get them and that is test em out. Do some sort of tang test. I use some sort of chopping medium like a 2X4 and whack it good to make sure the tang is going to hold. You can use whatever suits you, I probably wont use living tissue or my car, but if you do this ritual test you can have confidence in your khuk. Things are mighty tough.

You can give the khuk a girl's name.:D

Then chant:

"this is my khuk, there are others like it but this one is mine....."

:p

its own persona. My YCS is a bloody-minded khuk, and stays tucked well away form prying eyes and the rest of the "toys." It gave me a warning last time I honed it, no blood drawn, just a think transparnet layer of skin.

Others seem neutral or eager to help. The AK is the gentle giant, playfully and happily trashing whatever is in front of it.

The HI Seax and AK Bowie are neutral, which suits their more central points of balance.

HI Falcatta- That one stays on the rack, except for some practice swings and test cutting. It is a bisector fo objects, very businesslike. It and the YCS get the most pampering.

Blood on knife...Doesn't that cause some staining? Seriously tho, blood is very powerful mojo, and can be used to bind objects to one's self, to lend it a bit of what I call "IS-ness." Other forms of attention and work/dedication can do so, but the blood is powerful. Just ask the Mesoamericans, Celtic Druids, Ritual Cannibals and any other number of bloody-minded folk thru history. Blood is life, no metaphor there.

Thanks guys, I wasn't looking for ideas, just wondering what you fellas did.

I don't cut myself on purpose, I just let a litte get onto the spine of the blade and wipe it down before I stick the wounded body part in my mouth (gotta love Saliva).

Sundsval, believe me I have enough fun nameing the Rifle/LSW I get issued (I am an Army Cadet), you would be amazed at the looks you get from other guys after a tactical exercise when you tell them that you kept 'Lucy' in your sleeping bag all night ;) . Still waiting for the right name for my Khuk, just hasn't turned up yet.
