Okay first time doing a sand blast finish on blade and handle.

Will have this one at the NYCKS in a couple of weeks.

Looks good in the photo.

As one who works in the Abrasive Blasting industry, I'd be curious in what abrasive and pressure you used?

The final profile of the steel substrate makes a big difference in the corrosion resistance of the finished product.

Hi Sean,
I like the sand blasted finish. I mostly make skinning and back packing knives and just bought a compressor and sand blast cabinet so I can put a blasted finish on my knives. Unfortunately, I know nothing about blasting so I would like to pick your brain. Your finish looks great - what pressure and media did you use? My knives are S35VN hardened to Rc60-61. What would you recommend?

Thanks guys.

Sand blasting is very new to me as well so I am not the guy to ask. I can tell you what I did on this knife though just don't assume that this was the best way to go. I have been using 220 AO blast media with my compressor set to 80psi. I would have used a carbide media if I could have found it but there was no one near me selling it so I settled on aluminum oxide. Certainly a more agressive blast media would do the job more quickly at least I assume so but could wind up affecting corrosion resistance more. At 80psi my compressor (5Hp 60G) can easily keep up, it actually will recharge and shut off while I am using my blast cabinet.

Before blasting I took the knife up to my 600 grit cork belt using green compound.
