I wanted to make something nice for the Ohio/Koval show next month, so here's my attempt.
This Bowie knife has a 9" blade of 1000 layer high carbon/wrought iron "heartbeat" damascus, 15" total length. The S-guard and pommel are both 250 layer "random" damascus with file work accents. The handle is premium Sambar stag with a throat of stabilized buffalo horn and copper/black spacers. The knife is finished off with an Onyx cabochon on the pommel. The fully tooled leather blade sheath, by Tess, has shark skin inlays. I like this one. :)

I'd say you managed "something nice" pretty handily there, J.! Beautiful piece. Hope you're making a display stand for that one to really show it off!

Wicked nice, J!

Is that stag from Luca Sanino? I got some from him a couple months ago. Sweet stuff!

Nicely done.
I'll be glad when local produce slows down so I can build me a new forge for welding some demascus. Love that stuff. If you still want some bamboo and you haven't got any by the time the Chesapeak Knife Show gets here I'll bring some for you.

Very nice! Looks like the wrought iron mixed in very well. Was the wrought iron from the chain you found awhile back?

Ya I guess it's okay if you like sambar stag, damascus blade & guard, and ALL THAT OTHER COOL STUFF!!!

Looks really great! Nicely done as always. Wish I could check that one out in person.

That is a beautiful knife, I could only hope that I could make something like that some day. That thing motivates me.

W  W, that is a fine looking knife and sheath. I really like it too.

Greg

Man oh mAn.....Just when you think its safe to go back in the water...err I mean shop :o :o

Very beautiful piece J.!

Thanks for all the kind words guys, I'm getting better at this big damascus stuff, I think. I've still got along way to go but, I'm trying. Nowhere near good enough for a best of show thing but, I like to try and make something to catch the eye at a show. The wrought iron I got from Keith Bagley (fellow maker) and the sambar came from Elan Hunting. Really nice stuff. Again, thanks for the kind words from everyone. I definatley wouldn't be able to make stuff like this bowie if it wasn't for all the help my fellow forumites and fellow makers have given me over the years.

Nowicki- I ended up putting that bamboo idea on the backburner but, would still like to try it. I'd love a couple pieces of bamboo if it's no trouble to bring them to the show. Are you doing the VIP thing the night before?

As always, beautiful work from both of you. One of things that I think just sets it above, are the little touches, particularly liking the filework on the pommel. NOthing flashy, or amazing, but jsut one of those final finishing touches that brings whole piece together and puts it one step above the rest.
