Hi all thought I would share this info here that I found out today regarding the Cerakote service offered by them.
I have a pm2 cruwear/micarta and the manix 2 crucarta , unfortunately a few weeks ago I noticed both had pitting on them .
I know cruwear is not a stainless and should be treated as a high carbon steel , but I am kinda bummed about this . These were not users as I purchased them with a small amount of $ left to me by a recently deceased family member . So they joined my collection pieces that I will carry and use lightly .
After using sentry oil on them frequently I had assumed I was good , but per the thread pitting occurred .So I purchased some white diamond paste and polished them to within an inch of their lived , I then used 0 steel wool lightly and definitely made progress . But now they have a cloudy haze on the blades , this bugs the
of me . So I decided the best option was to send them to REC for a Cerakote . Seemed the best option left to me today I had time to call for a quote and was told that spyderco has in the last few weeks requested they no longer coat spyderco blades . Which peed all over my bonfire , I understand that the limited color way they offered on a few models could be construed as an infringement on spydercos policy . As once Cerakoted it voided the warranty , now personally I would have liked to been have able to make the purchase or service re the coating . With the understanding that in doing so I had no warranty , so again kinda bummed out . What are your opinions on this decision by spyderco ? , and Sal would you mind sharing your perspective ? Would spyderco ever consider offering the service yourselves ?. And to my final point can you guys recommend any one out there that put out some quality coating . Thanks guys
