I just rotated in my old Native, and it developed a strange quirk. The opening went from being smooth to uneven and requiring more force. If it wasn't riveted, I would open and clean it and adjust the tension. Lube and working it haven't changed things, so I suspect something got in there that I can't see or a washer gave out. I have looked over the forum archives, and the posts concerning this sort of issue are older and a little short on specifics--though given the tools recommended of a punch and ball peen hammer I can figure it out. I am wondering if anybody has an idea what is going on here. I would just send it back to Spyderco, but I tied a lanyard on it when my wife was in the hospital that has a strange amount of sentimental value. I don't want to cut it off, but I will have to if this is something I can't fix. Ideas?

Soap and water.
Dish soap and warm-hot water then blow it out.
Then use your favorite lube.

Yeah... posts 2 & 3 have it right. And don't forget to clean, dry, and lube the lockbar area. The problem may be coming from that instead of the pivot. I also believe that the pinned Natives were washerless.

try all the above as stated! and the last thing i would do is try punch/hammer that probably wont salve you problem,no washers in these FRN native's,if its a keeper that you truly love why not just send to spyderco for the fix! and forgo the paracord.

Soap and water worked in with an old toothbrush is all I've ever used on any knife. Might take a good bit of scrubbing but it should come clean. I never disassemble a knife for cleaning--too clumsy with poor eyesight.
